So you could say you're being judged as you judge etc.... like the passage suggests?

Ok.... I'm not trying to be pushy

Not sure if that is why you added that, but those are the words that rang in my head when I read that.

Unrelated note:

What does Attachment/ Un or Non Attachment mean to you?

To me it could mean a couple of things. I DO know the folks you're speaking about though. Definitely a difference between 'because it's a good thing to do' or 'because one will get attention for it' or something along that sentiment.

Cheers.

not being pushy, that was spot on what i was going for.

and i think detachment can mean a lot of things. some take it to the extreme in search of enlightenment, i like to go a bit more moderate (i'm not on a path to enlightenment after all, just trying to get by). for me detachment means i can still value something, but i need to acknowledge that no thing fundamentally makes me me. for instance, i'm pretty connected and emotionally invested in my friends, but if they were to die or we were to drift apart i shouldnt let myself feel like i lost my identity and fall to pieces. i'm not against any attachment, just attachment that becomes pathological...or maybe attachment where the feeling of loss when it goes away is greater than the joy it brought you when you still had it.

i try to stay detached from certain things, but i'm no renunciate or ascetic. i'm not gonna cut off my hand just to prove to myself i could live without it

Also.... in Chapter 3 of the Bhagavad Gita there is some advice from Krishna on attachment to the fruits of action. If it's a slow night it'd be something on topic to read.

Also also.... there is a FREE Gita thread that might just be cool to send in for just because I am really happy with the full version I have and it's nice to be able to take it with me on the bus. Good meditative reading. Nothing toooo crazy to sift through. And it's nice to cross compare the larger translation I have at home.
