Aldous Huxley's Doors or Perception, elaborate alot on what the mind at large is and the 'valve' that regulates our level of consciouness and ability to be aware of more.

Good read if you haven't. Otherwise you know what I'm refering to.

Nice post.

Definitely true. But also remember that the filtering function of the brain is necessary, as an overwhelming level of sensory input would make it impossible to function. Entheogens work a lot to open up our minds channels within itself too. Connections that are unconscious and obscured become clear and discernible. We can learn new truths and gain new insights which we can, with work, carry with us back into sobriety (if we ever choose to return ).

I wish i could remember my insights on drugs as easily as i can remember my day to day life (not to great, but thats a different story ). I guess if it were that easy revelations wouldn't have the same value they do though.

The opening of the mind isn't the action of the entheogen or empathogen, its a contract between the mind open to receive and the chemical willing to give. Drugs don't impart wisdom, they uncover it.

weed is like a pair of glasses for the third eye. society has rendered many shirt-sighted.

There is no doubt that tripping is a benefit of being reasonable safe and able in evolution in the physical world. If we were being attacked by animals all the time, it could be alittle dangerous to stroll around the woods half out the gourd. I don't necessarily agree that there is too much information to handle. I feel it still gets in there and swishes around staining a few parts of my soul and mind. For me learning that I could have that many things in my head at once was a starting point and lesson from my first one on. This is also why I don't feel the bad trip thing, because I've always taken it in stride and knew it was just a wild ride. Speaking again of safty, I would also mention that I never knowingly put myself in a bad trip enviro. Even walking around in the dark without flashings were safer for me than a room of people who weren't tripping. It's hard to relate to those who aren't once you start to speak

When i say too much information i mean purely in the sensory sense of the word. Its like why driving on acid probably isn't the best of ideas. We have to filter stimulus to concentrate on the important things. Like when i'm trying to read a book i don't want to be concentrated on the fibers that make up the paper...then i cant read.

and i think its no coincidence that some of the first societies so revered the mushroom that sprung from the shit of their cows. society allowed people to be able to both trip and not get eaten by a bear. we just never thought to look out for the bear hiding in our collective before it was too late.
Maybe the next big step in human evolution is to tame that bear and let the doves come through from our collective.

...I dont know, im just thinking that the universe is primarily a positive occurance and negativity is just our unwillingness to open ourselves to the positive. just like darkness doesnt truly exist (only an absence of light) i think we need to open up (with entheogens or without....preferabl y with ) to the fact that there can really be a state of pure positivity between humans and with nature.

maybe once we're in a state of positivity being around non-tripping people wont be a bad trip enviro at all, itll just be a source of reinforcing positive energy. we gotta make ourselves truly good so that our drugs can be even better!

These are words that I couldn't have put better myself. It's like you read my heart about the universe and what tapping in means when I'm tripping.

I'd add personally, that this the opening to positive and flexable energy is what has kept my head above water more than once, when things get alittle too heavy.

I'm not saying that being around people who aren't tripping is bad, but I think it takes some understanding from both ends to be around each other sometimes. Anti druggers are a harder story. Generally I don't feel freaked seeing people, it's just trying to have a polite 'normal' coversation for more than 3-4 mins, with a sober person, before I got careening into metaphores, stories or observations that would make any straight head alittle more than curious what this fine young man is up to.

I would agree with the first diagram (and Rev's too) but I would say you could replace "Brain + Entheogen" with "Brain + Dreams", "Brain + Meditation" or, if you want to take it to the extreme, "No Brain At All (Death)".

I always felt the dilated pupils were significant. Especially when you look at someone with dilated pupils (whether you have them also or not). It's an unspeakable feeling.

Do you think that is applicable when you meet someone who just normally has large pupils?

I know they talked about that when I had laser eye correction. My pupils are larger than normal, and said it could be a risk for sight in really low light since they already have a head start. Personally I feel that I am alittle more 'tripped out' on life than some people, but I don't know if my pupils have anything to do with it or not.

Just a thought to ask. I certainly feel like the overwhelming feeling is coming from my pupils when I'm tripping. Even stoned sometimes I feel like I'm REALLY seeing 3-D not just normal life, but as if there is just more depth than usual. This is usually when I like to look into my wife's eyes

I totally agree....I've been told I have huge pupils in comparison to others. I've even had people ask me if I was 'on something' when I was just feeling really great. I went to a healer a while ago and she mentioned that I have extremely intense energy 'behind the eyes.' It would make sense, I am usually pondering really 'tripped out' things all day, every day.

It's always good to be able to write something off as "normal" in our personal diagnostic manual. Thanks brother.

People tell me about my eyes. I get Jesus bit all the time , but people usually tell me its behind my eyes, not my hair....I don't know what to say to them, but that is just a way that I often get told that. Thanks for letting me share.

1) Speaking of big pupils.....and trippin'

2) JC I think not!

the weirdest thing is staring into peoples eyes whilst tripping, and realizing you are staring at yourself, and knowing they realize the same thing. its definitley a strange feeling, happens to me with complete strangers, sometimes sober too.

Awesome addition to the diagram Rev! I love it. (Thanks button isn't functioning properly for me)

Great thoughts swirling around in here

Through conditioning the brain is probably the most self-entitled filter we have...yet when entheogen's enter it becomes much more humble, and dynamic. Our more suppressed filters (sight, touch, smell, taste, hearing) are much more naturally humble, and do not assert themselves to the function of questioning. Which is never a bad thing, but the vital difference is that the other sense's awareness is intuitive.

Seth put it beautifully through Jane in one recorded session:

"Sometimes you try to be too practical. You have lovely eyes. Those eyes do not try to be practical. They see out of the joy of their being. They do not hustle themselves. The right eye does not say 'Is what I am seeing right?' and the left eye does not say 'Is what I am seeing wrong?'...And yet there is no disagreement. So there is no disagreement between your official reality and those unofficial realities that sometimes sneak through."

Entheogens reveal us the genuine sensitivity in all our senses, especially the organ called "the brain".

I was in a group a while ago and we did something called 'soul gazing'. We positioned ourselves in such a way that we were looking into the other person's right eye... and then we changed until we had each connected to every other person (8 of us, I believe). It was an interesting experience... to say the least.

The purpose of the pupil... to get larger and allow more light in, to get smaller and keep more light out... restricting the flow of light. Women used to use Bella Donna to increase the size of their pupils for aesthetic purposes.... so, there is something to being taken by someone with larger pupils. Not sure why though
