Kings

Anyone else watch this? I'm fascinated by the religious and spiritual symbology and metaphors used in this series...not to mention the coincidences between the symbology and my own life the past few years.

Anyone else watching it and have any thoughts about it? since I'm curious in "higher thoughts" about it I think it's better here than in multimedia forum.

I haven't seen it, but your post reminds me of a line from "Harold and Maude" that I really liked. Maude says to Harold, "I don't miss the kingdoms, but I do so miss the kings."

Yeah, it's just "Kings" it's on NBC on Sundays(I think)

I started a thread in the Multimedia forum... no one's responded to it.

I haven't been able to check the show out yet, but I've got all the episodes DVR'd.

Apparently it's a modern retelling of the Biblical story of David.

Thanks Bearsy, I can't find it on the comp, so with no tv I doubt I'll be seeing this very soon.

saw it, for what it was worth.

poorly made commercial piece of crap.

not as religeous as 3,2,1 penguins.

but then alot of the imported mexican tv (Qubo) is religeous by design.

Kings......didn't care for the acting...story line pretty much sucked.

Do you use torrents? EZTV.it is the best public tracker for TV shows.

Here's their Kings page...
EZTV - TV Torrents Online (eztvefnet.org is now eztv.it)

Also the episodes are posted on Hulu... http://www.hulu.com/kings

Thanks Bearsy, hulu doesn't work up here for some reason. But I"ll look into that EZTV thing further.

interesting. thought it was one of the best new series to come along in years.

And Bearsy, the first episode is very reminiscent of the story of David, but I think the longer term themes of the show are going to deal with a LOT of spiritual and religious issues like synchronicity, signs, belief in God equating to the existence of God, and Christian/gnostic symbology.

Plus it's pretty smartly written and apt for the state of our country right now.

Of course it's not as religious as 3,2,1 Penguins you cynical old fart.
Kings is a prime time, televised drama with some spiritual elements.
3,2,1 Penguins is a kids program designed specifically to teach Bible stories and instill biblical morals.

As I said, I haven't seen them yet, but I really can't believe the acting is bad. Ian McShane is a terrific actor with a drive to only be in quality works(a la Daniel Day Lewis, only not as intense and strict).

the acting is awesome in this series. And I'm a jaded actor who critiques other actors mad harshly.

I can understand not liking the story/writing before the acting. Ian McShane and the kid they got to play David are AWESOME. And every actor who you know (but not their name...just the face) makes a cameo.

FFS, David Cox even makes an appearance! He's Patrick Stewart/Ian McKellan calibre actor from the British school. Anyway....

for me this script is kinda shocking because the name "david", butterflies, and the rise of a hero are the three main pillars to my own "synchronicity" quest I seem to have been on for the past few years. So to see a t.v. show written around those three things with the major plot device of "following the signs" is pretty shocking to me.
