This is certainly why I say, God no God, Right, Wrong.
Seeing and knowing things like this make possible a really big word full of potential. How can we think we actually know anything? Our knowledge is based on such a small field of comparison.....Even to the scale of...OK that ARE crazy pictures that make us feel really small......can we even comprehend what is going on in the Galaxies we see, let alot the planets, countries? Homes? Thanks for the post Spankey that was a good visual. Keep it coming

On his return trip from the moon on the Apollo 14 mission, astronaut Edgar Mitchell stared out of the window at our blue planet Earth. At that moment something profound hit him. All of a sudden he was hurtled out of his normal consciousness and felt an intense oneness, a connectedness with planet Earth and in fact all of the universe. Never before had he had such an experience. His ego and the separate world outside of him merged. He could no longer discern a difference; he himself had become the universe! His thoughts seemed to have an effect on the outer world and the outer world seemed to have an effect on his thoughts. He was fully aware of the fact that the separation of his ego and the universe at large does not exist. It is the experience described in quantum scientific terms by David Bohm wherein the observer becomes the observed! Many people in all walks of life throughout the ages have reported such experiences; it is called a mystical experience. In a flash of higher consciousness a higher truth is revealed that dramatically changes the life of the person who underwent the experience. And such was the case with Edgar Mitchell. After his safe return to Earth, he founded in 1973 a non-profit organization the ‘Institute of Noetic Sciences’ aimed at studying the nature of human consciousness.

If you shine a light to get to the end of the milyway galaxy, it would take over 100,000 years before it gets to the otherside of our OWN galaxy. We'd have to have generations of families and have astronaut babies just to get out of out own solar system. There's got to be something greater out there, I don't believe this is all there is, it just can't be. Unless of course we use all our resources trying to make a living and eventually die out just like the DINOsoaurS. Last edited by José; 04-17-2009 at 04:57 PM. |

not only is our universe enormous beyond our minds comprehension it's also fantastically small, atoms with their electrons orbiting the nucleus like a miniature solar system.
when you start thinking on those scales it just too much to grasp, we cant get our minds around that.

well once you get to a sub-atomic level, shit gets even more intense than the Big picture.
I mean think about it, it goes from molecules, to atoms of elements, to electrons, protons, and neutrons. Last but not least, gluons and quarks. What's next? It's physically possible that there's one single particle that's the same in every atom. There could be an infinite amount of dimensions and universes at the sub-atomic level. We know something, we just don't know what. |

I love this. Thats why I'm going to study physics, to figure out this damn universe would be next to transcendence for me. If I figure it out. I'll let you know.

I don't think there's anything to figure out except the pic the OP posted and what Kishar said. Doesn't matter which direction you go, it will always end in infinite levels. It's like trying to find the highest or lowest octave in sound...you can't, because it technically can repeat ad infinum. I find tremendous implications and solace from this. Existence/creation is a humbling experience that I don't quite understand how people become pessimistic in. If you can retain the perspective of this thread, it's hard to fear much of anything.
Anyway, if you want to create a Zero Point Energy machine (ZPEnergy.com), study physics. If you want to solve the mystery of the universe, meditate daily.

The horror... The existential angst... That which is simultaneously enormous and tiny, nowhere to go but into infinity and right back to where you started, only to find that you never actually started anywhere at all, that there is no such thing as "somewhere." No escape... not even in death - consumed by infinity, horrified by it we are forever seeking distraction through physical existence. Life, drama, conflict, war, drugs, entertainment, anything to keep the ego from dissolving into the churning sea of eternal impermanence, and thus revealing to us once again the insanity of the incomprehensible. I think I'm going to go throw up now.

Which brings me to my next thought... What about absolute zero? Is it possible to get any colder than absolute zero? I mean it seams so simple, that all particles stop under absolute zero temps. It almost seams that low of a temperature could effect the degrees of molecules bonds, which in turn could lead to another dimension or even create dark matter? I'm not even high....
