Thought-Provoking Quotes

This thread may very well have been done before... but as I am currently lazy, and feel it couldn't hurt to be in this forum, here we are!

What are some quotes that really get you thinking about life and the world around you?

This is one I stumbled on in University. It's the only one I have that I didn't find on the internet:

"Civilized men have gained noble mastery over energy, matter, and inanimate nature generally, and are rapidly learning to control physical suffering and premature death. But, by contrast, we appear to be living in the Stone Age so far as our handling of human relationships is concerned. Our defecit in social knowledge seems to void at every step our progress in physical knowledge... Gains in medical science are widely negated by the poverty that results from war and from trade barriers erected largely by hatred and fear... Rivalries and hatreds groups are nothing new. What is new is the fact that technology has brought these groups too close together for comfort... We have not yet learned how to adjust to our new mental and moral proximity."
-ALLPORT (1954, p. xiii)

That's pretty, well...Though provoking, because it's true. Like I get the concept of this thread, but are we allowed to talk about the quotes?

That's a good one.

Thanks, I like it too!

I think discussion of the quotes is perfectly okay for a thread like this.

The most thought-provoking thing in our thought-provoking time is that we are still not thinking.
