I think that taking a simple job is great. The duties aren't that hard and it gives you alot of time to work things out in your head, think of headier issues, or just get blazed and be simply focused. "Before enlightenment, chop wood carry water, After enlightenment chop wood and carry water" To me the hard work on doing something like chopping or carrying is the enlightenment. I consider myself a smart guy, but I always end up working with people who sometimes haven't even graduated HS. This makes me think what type of jobs am I getting? In the end it doesn't matter, because I choose to like my work and do it well. Don't sweat a small job. Doing service work, imo, gives people a much greater appriciation for ALL the jobs that makes the 'world' go round.

ted i hear you on having shitty jobs. as a musician ive had shit jobs and will continue to have shit jobs until PERHAPS one day i gain enough status and recognition with my music to make money off of it. im not out of college yet, havent officialy started my career but ive already come to terms with this. and i honestly dont give a shit, because music is what i love to do. if i end up playing in bars the rest of my life i could care less. "Before enlightenment, chop wood carry water, After enlightenment chop wood and carry water"

I feel much the same way ted. The only thing I can think of is to stay in touch with the deeper sense, and just put up with the rat race, toil away and make money, go out and get involved so you can meet bitches. But think of it like your the prisoner who cannot be caged... you may be bound by walls, but your true self is not bound by them sorta thing.

I think that maybe getting a job working with plants could be good for you if you like it. You'll be playing in dirt all day. Look into it. Once you are in the plant world, it's really easy to stay. I've been here since 03. Not always the easiest but for me it is the most fulfilling. Try things out. And it's so true. While it's hard to open up your consciousness to questioning what we are told is the right way and living in 'Aughts' our lives through, I feel confident that you will find a way to make things work for you. Renuncication doesn't means giving up everything and having nothing. It, to me, means not placing idenity and attachement on those things. You can have something nice that works properly, without being vein. You have the wealth of an inward kingdom right now. One that no one but you can explore. Sometimes there are thick forests that leave us scared, but there are also prestine moments of joy that make the struggle worth it. Plus, you do need that nice axe or shovel to make the work sensable for mind and body. You'll find the tools you need. Be patient, be content and remember the journey is the destination. Love Sageji

You guys have it right on. I've made money, and have nice things, and one day I just asked myself what was the fucking point, like I wish we were all striving for something great, but it seems America is just about business, greed and ego. This has gotten me severely depressed, but I believe change is coming. If there are hundred's people feeling the same way on a message board, there have to be thousands of people that feel the same way as us that aren't "connected". Just need a way to bring them all together. I think somethings bubbling...I feel it, through these message boards, talking with random people, humans need common goals, not just material things.

Back in the day my psychiatrist would regularly recite the chop wood fetch water quote to me. I think she was trying to make a point... Here's another good one...
A monk said to Jõshû, “I have just entered this monastery. Please teach me.” “Have you eaten your rice porridge?” asked Jõshû. “Yes, I have,” replied the monk. “Then you had better wash your bowl,” said Jõshû. With this the monk gained insight.

Find higher purpose. Decide what is needed to accomplish it (usually money is found in their somewhere). Decide which career helps you fullfil your higher purpose that gives the most money.
Enjoy monetary things while loving your purpose. Money and spirit can both be had in the same person. Seems like many people here don't seem to agree. |

but what you really want, what the wise folk really want and are willing to sacrifice material and flesh things for is good. Good things. |

if you guys want to live on a farm.. look up Wwoofing.. you go work at farms around the world just working for foood and shelter. just go to farm to farm, mabey eventually start your own farm and get people to come help you.. im leaving in 7 days i have 4 farms that want me. all on little islands around BC. well one of them is my freind who lives on pender island and im helping him clear land and start a vegitable garden and stuff...
i know one thing is if you want that type of lifestyle you have to give up quite alot...

Find yourself a girl, who you have everything in common a free spirit... but make sure she dosnt get into blow and rely's on the next high to solve her past problems! That's happiness right there.. well till she find's a bunch of friend's who only wait for the next high.
Fuck, I've felt so alive for the past 4 years.. now Im kinda waking up again realizing it was always me who made that happen not her... kinda been bummed out since then but, we were so intertwined with each other, lived for each other.. sick but awesome. |
