What is "love"?

Well I was reading Plato's Symposium again. When I'm feeling romantic haha that's what I do. It got me to thinking,

Everyone has different perspectives/definitions for what love is, and how much it means.

What do you think "love" is and how much does "love" mean in your perspective? Are there different kinds of love(or do you only believe in one denomination)?

Here's what I believe:

Relationship/friendship love -
You have to create the love you desire with-in yourself before expecting it be found in someone else. Traverse every edge like a sculpture and make it pronounced. Be the artist of your desires, and when you invite another to visit your creation, only then can it be shared. Though it is often misinterpreted. Love is when another has sculpted a perfect compliment to your composition and understanding of love and shared this with you.

Universal love -
There is an energy in which represents existence to an entirety. I believe this is the strongest force in the universe. That which makes electrons occilate(s.p?) around a nucleus, and hold everything in tact, even if only for a moment.

What do you guys/girls believe?

Some random thoughts in my experience:

I think love is inherent, it's our inborn state. Yet security or the sense of it, has clouded that true open honest ability to act in love, for alot of people myself included.

Choosing to love is choosing to accept people and the fact they have faults, as you precieve them as such.

There is of course romantic love that acts more in the physical sense and pleasure, but also I have found that after 5 years of marriage that there is physical love associated to our bodies and pretaining to where we have taken them and the memories that we have created.

Love is choosing to work things out with people despite your pride and ego.

Loving is letting go of yourself and looking at the greater good to be had.

Love leads to compromise, each considering the other.

Love can caultivate a place of equanimity where we are all safe and secure to open up to each other.

Love then begats love starting a quite UN-vicious circle.

Love is the only thing to conquer hate/fear.

I love you

This! I strongly believe it's the force that holds everything together.

I couldn't help it.

I was actually thinking about putting it in the original post, haha, but I figured I'd let someone else have the fun of it.

i'm pretty sure love is a series of chemical reactions occurring within the brain.

But what does love become ,in meaning, during/after that reaction and what spawns that reaction in the first place?

or are those series of chemicals there because we love? what came first the chemicals or the love?

love = understanding and appreciation

Compassion seems to encompass those two.

I have a lot of varying opinions on the nature of love... but this song somewhat refined my rationalist view on it.

Theres many who'll tell you theyll give you their love,
But when they say "give" they mean "take".
They hang round just like vultures 'til push comes to shove
And take flight when the earth starts to shake.

Someone may say that they'll always be true
Then slip out the door 'fore the dawn,
But I wont leave you hanging on.

Another may stay 'til they find someone new
Then before you know they'll be gone,
But I wont leave you hanging on.

No, I wont won't be that someone.

And come what may, I wont abandon you or leave you behind,
Because love is a loyalty sworn, not a burning for a moment.
Come what may, I will be standing right here by your side,
I wont run away, though the storms getting worse and theres no end in sight.

Some talk of destiny, others of fate,
But soon theyll be saying goodbye,
But I wont leave you high and dry.

'Cause a ring dont mean nothing if you cant haul the weight
And some of them wont even try,
But I wont leave you high and dry.

I wont leave you wondering why.

And come what may, I wont abandon you or leave you behind,
Because love is a loyalty sworn, not a burning for a moment.
Come what may, I will be standing right here by your side,
I wont run away, though the storms getting worse and theres no end in sight.

And storms will surely come,
But true love is a choice you must make and you are the one.
That I have set my heart to choose
As long as I live, I swear Ill see this through.
