My Mom was always worried about me getting caught, and asked me once if she did anything wrong or didn't get me something in life that made me start doing drugs. Which was Pot and acid at the time......
I long conversation of the benefits and comforting ensued. It was about 2 years later she tried it. We smoked alittle with a glass of wine from time to time. Then she started feeling that she didn't want my little sis to catch us, so she stopped. My Dad was and still is a real ass my little sister for some reason, so I was her only semblance of a man in our house at the ripe age of 16 this started. So I want to share ths story as well, since I know kids aren't an option in my future, although our nieces and nephews really look up to me as a man as well since their Dad's aren't there either. So I must ponder this a little. Lil' sis was buying it at the place in town where everyone was getting caught since 1945 I'm sure, so I told her that I would buy it for her, with her money, or smoke her up from time to time. She wasn't getting ripped off, was safe from the po po and I got a chance to be high with her and model a bit. I also knew how much she was smoking as well. She was 14 I think, but I felt that it was prevention over abstinence. I was also about 18 when that happened. I didn't start till I was 17.5. Just have my 10 yr this summer. She had a really bad X-perience with an asshole boy friend and said that if she ever did another drug it would be with me. So when she came home with some sweet-acid, as we found out. I did that with her too. I don't think she ever did as much as I did at all. (200 or so hits) and that was okay with me. We had a really good time and used all three levels of the house for different vibes. Then went out for one of my favourite activities....walkin g under the full moon with out flashlights in the forest, back an old colonial trail in our town. I got her alittle freaked and...yes I was driving on two hits....an odd skill I have...and then taught her how to calm down and realize that what we were doing was in our heads and to always remember to be in a safe place or to keep in mind that the ride ends at some point. I know it a night neither ever forgot. Now she is 24 and lives with a small time grower, which is mainly for personal use and gifts. I think she might smoke too much and seems burnt sometimes. But she finished a great deal of college before getting her associates degree, which I am proud of. I always told her to put your bills and goals ahead of your bowls. My Mom married a fairly conservative man, who I'm SURE knows her kids are total heathens, but he loves us anyways, and Mom never smoked again. I'm proud of her for trying.

This is probably good, unless they reinstate it as a therapy drug with a licensed mediator, like it was back in the 80's. I think it could have profoundly good results in that case.
Most of my Dad's anger was because I stumped him in arguements, and I'm not just being cocksure here. He would just start to sputter and ah. yh. i. a. gt.... I would tell him he was only pissed because I offended his ego...that is pretty much when he would come after me and start on me..... But I was bigger at the time, and I had alot of vengence to release, for when I was younger and to little or young to know I could fight back and what laws were. After our family's divorce I think he became really frightened me and my sister wouldn't talk to him again and for about 2-3 years I only got a call from and called once a year, so two times we'd speak, and it was brief. Then one day I decided to forgive him and ask for it in return. He was game. However I don't think that fear has ever left him and for that I feel bad. He really doesn't even talk about it when I try to prompt convo, which could alleviate that fear. So for those two opposing reasons, I wish we could do it together in a counseling setting so his angry former ego and his hurt scared fearful one would be quelled long enough for us to embrace each other and really meld together again like when I was really young. I miss my Dad. He just turned 50 this year. And I wish I could break through that wall he hides behind so that he could feel the warm of my heart and tears. Why are father son relationships so often complicated. His Dad and his was as well. So it's possible he just doesn't know how ....

For previous abuse, when I was too little to push back or know I could.
Know what I'm saying now ?I went back and amended that sentence.

my relationship with my father is difficult as well. He never had a father cause he died while orange nanna was pregnant. and i think youve hit the nail there. well ive certainly felt that way
he just doesnt know how. and the the funny thing is, as i get older, im recognising my own shortcomings when it comes to succesful male-male relationships.. but no dramas with being friends with girls.. sometimes to the ire of my male friends when they have girlfriends around..

I smoked with my parents, but even though I know my two older kids smoke,
I won't do it with them. As parents we say more by our actions than our words. Through my actions I try to model descretion, moderation, and security. We talk explicitly about these things as well. Even though physically I would rather have them out smoking a joint insted of engaging in underage drinking, I'd feel terrible if any of them ever got busted.

I remember my uncle (who was around 70 at the time) saying that he thought all drugs should be legal. My mother just about shat her shorts. Never got the chance to get high with him, unfortunately.

defginitely, Do NOT participate in your habit around your kids. they do NOTICE the smell and at a very young age it is so difficult to explain, and they will not understand Y Mom or Dad are doing something that schools, tv, radio, etc are telling them NOT to do. My oldest is 24 yrs old now and yes I do smoke with him sometimes. But I have lived that nightmare and survived it. Each his own.

the Dominicans in Lynn will do anything in front of their kids, like I've seen a guy booting dope and his kid walked in and he just kept going real casual.

Ideally I would want my kids, if I ever have any, to stumble upon pot on their own and form their own opinions about it. Then if they turn into good little stoners we can smoke all day. Personally, I would be disappointed if my kids didn't smoke weed. It's something I would hope to be able to share with them if they ever exist. Somebodies gotta show em the ropes and who better than their father.

Verk, wish you could step outside your office for a minute and see how many people are making over $ 40,000/year out there. That's what it takes minimally for responsible people to start having babies. You know about the economy, right? I know it doesn't affect you, but a lot are hurting now. Let's just say, babies are expensive.

Smoking around kids, kids tell friends, friends tell parents, parents (can) tell Child Protective Services. You want to roll that dice ?

Turm, you are entitled to have your opinion respected. Period.
You did not lie, call anybody out of their name, or talk about anybody else's mama with disrespect. If folks disagree with you, fine. If folks disrespect you, not fine. That's my opinion. Last edited by hijabihippie; 10-05-2009 at 08:57 AM. |
