I trashpicked a copy of Ram Dass's book Be Here Now.
I still have it. That was 15 years ago, and I'm still blown away by it.
I love the mantra for smoking herb I found in it:

Om Shiva Shankara Hare Hare Ganja

In that book...Be Here Now, he mentions coming to New Hampshire after returning from India in 1968.
He moved in to his millionaire father's summer home for a time. When he entered this small town, about 90 miles from Boston, he was surprised to see hiippies there. He then knew "the movement" had really affected all pockets of America.
We would go visit him before the world found out where he was. He would tell stories of he and Leary getting out the word out on the psychedelic experience, taking it for spiritual advancement, etc. We thought we were doing serious drugs at the time, until he told us a story about how he used to shoot up DMT and give a lecture !

I was reading a Huston Smith interview in Shambala sun. Dass's advice to Smith, who was partnering with Leary as an existential advisor in the 60s, was 'When you get the message, hang up the phone'
