Mushrooms and "Beserker Rage", Exhibit A: Cerpin Taxt

http://infao5501.ag5.mpi-sb.mpg.de:8...6201.xml&style
Quote:
S. Odman first suggested in 1784 that Nordic Vikings used fly-agaric ( Amanita muscaria ) to produce their berserker rages. Supposedly, the Norse took these mushrooms so that the effect came on during the heat of battle or while at work. During the berserker rage they performed deeds which otherwise would have been impossible. The rage started with shivering, chattering of the teeth and a chill. Their faces became swollen and changed color. A great rage developed in which they howled like wild animals and violently killed anyone in their way, friend or foe alike. Afterward their mind became dulled and feeble for several days. The potency of North-American fly agarics has been confirmed by Siberian shamans, but the methodology of effective use has eluded modern experimenters.
I believe it 100%, because I experienced it... to make a long story (and a very long night) short. It happened a year ago, and to this day it is among the most profound moments of my life.

I had drank 3.5 grams in tea and had underestimated my ability to control myself; my mind and the situation itself were just not right for tripping.

After having my sensibilities stripped from my consciousness long ago, I decided to venture into the basement where my two female roomates had their rooms. My buddies and I never really talked to them that much, but we kept things civil. That being said, me going down there in the state I was was probably not the least awkward moment of their lives. I had become extremely paranoid and wary, but also felt a fire building inside of me that was growing stronger by the second. As cheesy as it sounds I can only compare the feeling to being Bruce Banner knowing that he can change into the Hulk. I felt like my clothes were suffocating, so I stripped down to my boxers and stood up. I'm assuming the girls didn't know what to do or say because they let me do so without doing anything.

I then felt that chill described above and all my muscles gradually tensing up. I felt this surge of power and strength start coursing through me and it was only getting stronger. I could feel the blood rushing to my head and my muscles started feeling like then were going to pop out of my skin. The pressure in my head became so strong that I started growling, and that grew to a yell. This yell then finally became a deafening scream that I did not think humanly possible, let alone a sound I could produce. The power I felt in that moment was incredible, and it was a release like nothing I've ever felt before. After letting out the blood curdling howl, I settled (to an extent) and just wanted to smash something. I then heard feet coming down the stairs and my paranoia kicked in.

"They're coming to get me. I know it. They know what I'm doing down here and they're trying to stop me."

A sense of panic, as the only way out of the basement is up the stairs I came down. The footsteps are getting closer. I'm going to have to fight my way out of here.

In one series of motions, I run up the stairs and meet a friend of mine half way. Before he can even say anything, I punch him in the face while still heading up the stairs. A second friend who was further up the stairs sees this and says "Woah what the fuck?!" and backs off as I run by. I run into a third friend who's in the hallway and, with a shocked/scared look in his eyes he says "What the hell are you doing man?" It wasn't what he said, but the look in his eyes, that snapped me out of my mindless rush to freedom. Some sense was returned to me, and I appologized for not being able to handle my state, saying "It's my first time" and "I don't know how to handle it yet." Not exactly thinking what I said made a lot of sense, my buddy just stared at me. The friend of mine I punched had his mouth split open and needed to get stitches. It was 3am.

They later said they came downstairs (they were two floors up) because they heard a 'savage scream' that sounded like someone was being murdered.

It's a night that's now somewhat taboo in my circle.

The reason I'm posting this story in the spiritual smoke forum because I feel I bared witness to an unlocked power that we surely all possess. What I am asking is: Do you believe that this was a glimpse at the true physical capabilities of the human body?... The physical equivalent to the opening of the Third Eye? Or simply a short circuit in the brains functioning?

EDIT: Viking Answer Lady Webpage - Berserkergang

Interesting stuff...

I can't back any of my opinion up with evidence, but I would say I believe you. I'm not sure if it was exactly like a Norse viking rage, but I think there's a switch in the head that the vikings flipped in order to be able to let go and just rage. I also just realized the parallel of you punching your friend and the vikings hacking up anything near them. I don't see how anyone in a state other than berserk (no offense to you haha) could willingly harm their teammates in battle, or in the steps to their basement.

Cool story, you wrote it very coherently which i always think is a challenge when it comes to talking about tripping.

I honestly could not tell you.

In any case, my next shroom trip has to be out in the wilderness somewhere...

Most likely cubensis of some kind...muscaria are pretty rare to come across.

And I would believe it 100%. The mushies definitely are a channel to an energy that is not of this physical world of percieved limitations.

I mean, I've heard of stories of guys on PCP that run away/scale fenses with broken legs. So I wouldn't doubt the potency of a muscaria...they are the true "flesh of the gods."

The only time I was really scared was when paranoia kicked in (it did, very much so, throughout the night).

The experience itself in the basement is among the most profound in my lifetime, and during which I felt neither scared nor safe nor any emotion really... In fact, it's something I want to experience again, albeit under much safer conditions. To be able to channel that kind of energy and not hurt people I care about... hence the wilderness haha.

It's funny you should mention the broken bone thing Ego, because in my earliest sober reflections after that night I remember remarking that I probably could have fought 10 guys with a broken arm and not even batted an eye.

Sounds like a pretty clear cut case of induced psychosis (psilocybin psychosis I guess in this case)

The similarity of psilocybin-induced symptoms to those of schizophrenia has led to the drug being used in both behavioral and neuroimaging studies of this psychotic disorder. In both cases, psychotic symptoms are thought to arise from a "deficient gating of sensory and cognitive information" in the brain that ultimately lead to "cognitive fragmentation and psychosis".[71]
That's on the Psilocybin Wiki page, other googling reveals strong indications of the paranoia phase you also experienced.

I'd imagine there would certainly need to be a lacking/draining of mental resources in order to reach a physical state like the one I was in. But that again is another reason I want to try and do it again... the possibility of being able to harness even the slightest bit of that condition while still having my wits about me is incredibly intriguing.

A little redundant though, the entire 'Beserker' phenomenon can pretty much be slated into the category of psychosis... "He just wen't fucking psycho!"... but I really think there is more to it.

Being able to observe symptoms is much different then experiencing them and then being able to rationally observe them... It's like doctors looking at a severely mentally handicapped person and observing who they are... but do doctors ever really know?

i think you got a small taste of the raw uncontrolled power that is bigger and capable of much more than wild rage and fighting.

It most certainly left me wanting more... it will be the focus of any future well planned mushroom trips for me.

lol damn cerpin...

that info on the vikings is interesting. i can totally see that taking psychedelics under that midset of I WANNA KILL THESE MOTHERFUCKERS can lead to some crazy shit.

Can you imagine what kind of horrible damage would be done if that was to happen in todays world? Think of how much damage the US army does and could do now, Then imagine if soldiers were fed psychedelics beforehand.

didnt the Japanese invent meth for that reason as well? crazy methed out soldiers.

They took a lot in WWII. Maybe explains a lot. But I think the Germans invented it hence the name Nazi Krunk. Hitler was a big user.

Did anyone mention that the berserkers used to paint themselves blue?
