Sure. Laleh Bakhtiar, American, is the first woman to do a feminist translation of the Qur'an, titled The Sublime Qur'an. What makes this translation notable is that she retranslates a verse of the Qur'an that is problematic for many people, the verse that purportedly allows the beating of wives. She examined the original Arabic and determined that the verse had been mistranslated. The word that was traditionally translated as "beat", actually translates to "go away from".

Irshad Manji, born in Uganda, is a journalist, television personality and writer-in-residence at the University of Toronto. She is the author of The Trouble With Islam: A Muslim's Call For Reform In Her Faith. Her website is: Irshad Manji blog and official website home.

Tariq Ramadan is a Muslim and Islamic Studies professor currently based in Switzerland.
He is a reform-minded scholar, writer and teacher. He has repeatedly called for reform, and is working to build it. He has often made the point that in Islamic scholarly tradition, there is a long tradition of questioning and different schools of thought. His website is: www.tariqramadan.com.

There are others, such as the first woman to give the Khutbah (Friday sermon) in front of a congregation of both men and women, and Al Fatihah, a gay & lesbian Muslim group.
My point is, there is an active reform movement in Islam. The people whose names I gave are some of the best known in the field, worldwide.

I hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure simple context clues helped anyone figure out that you were talking about islamic reformers. If anyone wanted to know they could google it themselves

thanks for sharing either way, i guess

i think all religions are pretty fucked. But a really religious Jewish person is infinitely times more tolerable than a crazy bible thumping christian.

I don't think so. In the mosque I pray at, you would be sussed out, escorted out, told not to come back and there is a brother at the door every Friday to make sure you don't.
