Grounding Excercises

I need some more. To all my fellow psychonauts this is fucking critical! After heavy trips or repeating many trips you NEED grounding.

If you just had some heavy meditation sometimes you can feel a little "high", not like drugs high but just well you know, out there.

If your like me and you combine meditation with hallucinogens grounding, again is critical.

Grounding is about finding your center, your balance, yourself(not neccasiraly your identity though). It's about fitting into your surroundings and understanding your union with them after an experience that can make one feel "alienated" or "strange".

Here are some things I do to ground myself:
1. SING! Doesn't matter how good you sound just let go of your judgements and go wild with expression. Even deep humming with mouth closed is helpful, let your whole body vibrate from your hums.

Beat a drum, make a simple beat. Listen to the rythym you are creating and realize the influence you have on your surroundings.

2. HIKING! Go outside, commune with nature. Seriously this one has changed my entire life. Just as much or even more than the hallucinogens I have oh so often pumped into my blood-stream.

Water is so helpful for this, hikes by a river, or in the rain. I love to dip my hands or feet into a stream and just feel the flow. Bathtubs work decently for winter-time.

3. CONVERSATION! Talk to some friends, talk to your family. About the weather about everything/anything. Talking helps so much. If you are stuck in a worm-hole of introspection the easiest way to break this is to have a healthy conversation. Don't guide it too much, this isn't about you, it's about you and the person. This can help you find your place socially.

4. Spirituality. If your spiritual, practice it! Commune with the spirits, pray, light meditation, whatever boats your float. Just don't go too deep or too out there as that is counter productive.

"Before enlightenment, go to work. After enlightenment, go to work." The second part is the hardest part if you ask me. Not that I am some enlightened being, but I have had many enlightening experiences I am sure all of you have too!

Anyone else have any tips or strategies, I'd love to hear and practice them!

I tend to focus on what's going on around me at the moment. I get into my senses, more than my thoughts. I heard a saying once, "Lose your mind, come to your senses." I think that's the gist of it.

right on rev! be fully aware of your activity in the moment, whatever it is you're doing. folding laundry, in the shower, cooking: take it all in and BE it. that's the most literal grounding there is, imo, and the things mydriasis listed are great examples

Journaling- Trying to use relative words to express your ultimate experience can add some much appreciated logic and organization. When we step back perhaps it's easier to see the puzzle piece we've just created as well as seeing how it fits into our puzzle. Perhaps we just need to set that piece to the side for a while as well, which is what is nice about the writing. It's there. It's solid. It's yours.

Art- For some what I just described can be done with art, where the only boundaries are the mediums worked with, and perhaps the form of the concept is less restricted in art as well. One of my favourite instances is how crayons feel on sketch paper. For me this is highly grounding as I begin to feel the light vibration moving up my arm and into my Being.

Both of these are severed why, imo, by a non-judging mind. Let the pencil move how it will because you are holding it, becoming and extension of you arm.

After enlightenment, I believe, what changes is our cause and mindset with which we work, because weight is still weight.
Perhaps with a new out look however we can take a second to look at the necessity of how the job is done.
There's a time to hump it and get it done, enjoying the way our bodies tire and tense and there are times to take many light loads enjoying each step.

I agree with you rev and verk thoughh.... Sometimes simple things like folding clothes and being mindful, can still keep you slipping down a psychedelic slope of alien color, hyperfractals, and disattachment. Grounding in the ways you guys suggested is SUPER useful for daily life but I was more referring to when you get really thrown off the planet Earth and need to come back down .

Sage - very good ideas as well.

I'm glad there's a lot of good people on here with good ideas. I really do treasure you all .

someone on another forum said natural food like fruit etc, which I think is another good one I'll share for them.
