Golden ratio discovered in a quantum world
Researchers from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB), in cooperation with colleagues from Oxford and Bristol Universities, as well as the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK, have for the first time observed a nanoscale symmetry hidden in solid state matter. They have measured the signatures of a symmetry showing the same attributes as the golden ratio famous from art and architecture. The research team is publishing these findings in Science on the 8. January. Golden ratio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In mathematics and the arts, two quantities are in the golden ratio if the ratio of the sum of the quantities to the larger quantity is equal to (=) the ratio of the larger quantity to the smaller one. The golden ratio is an irrational mathematical constant, approximately 1.6180339887.[1] Other names frequently used for the golden ratio are the golden section (Latin: sectio aurea) and golden mean.[2][3][4] Other terms encountered include extreme and mean ratio,[5] medial section, divine proportion, divine section (Latin: sectio divina), golden proportion, golden cut,[6] golden number, and mean of Phidias.[7][8][9] The golden ratio is often denoted by the Greek letter phi, usually lower case (φ). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() trippy dood

i like the way you put it, micro= macro
ive been looking for a way to describe this phenomena. big is the same as small is the same a huge is the same as microscopic. i think it just shows how physics shapes everything

yep, its like you cant directly observe the laws of the universe but by observing how those laws shape us and the shit around us, you CAN sort of get an understanding of how this is all going down, and perhaps a better understanding of how you work as a human being?

nice pics!
![]() so all physicality/existence adheres to the same self-similar pattern: something we might call a signature. between this and the exotic states of matter scientists keep discovering/creating, we're sure learning a lot about the properties of our universe. it's seriously cool shit

![]() i really see the universe as a game whose code we can manipulate. it's all data, conveying properties that react among each other according to the data. experimental physics is literally shaping new matter and creating properties that we didn't think existed. and perhaps most intriguingly, these properties can potentially help solve some of the technological dilemmas we face as a species. nothing is impossible now

Funny you should mention this today. I was doing some research in stock prices and stumbled across phi in a price estimation model.

the human curve or "s" curve...I've known about all my life.
not sure where I learned it. But to me this isn't news. none the less interesting someone mathmatically can prove it. I suppose. |

Waves, Look up Hugh Everett, and his presentation of dual or multiple realities.
It is my belief that (based on the above) that the external observer can effect the desired outcome. |
