vErGO . . I'm glad you're making the jump from things to people. Wish you weren't so obsessed with me, but I understand the fascination. Maybe I can be the bridge for you to talk about ideas someday.
Sorry Bearsy...but you started it. (Wasn't that the guy run over by Richie April ?) Oh, wait, that was Beansy.

I started what?
I added a post to the thread by mentioning that I was reading two books and one asking if being able to communicate in short form was a good thing as opposed to a bad thing. You attacked me for no reason. Grow up.

You know,vErGO, it's rough making the transition to talking about things and people to talking about ideas. Let's do this. . . once a day contribute a new idea that you've come across.
Let me start. The next generation in batteries. Now maybe you tech guys think this is yesterday's news, but to a regular guy like me this is a great new idea. . . The end of the battery: British invent material that looks like plastic but can store electricity | Mail Online

"Just like his joke is way over yours."
Bearsy drew first blood. Now that we're over that . . . what's new, what's now and what's next ?

i use the internet alot, but it hasnt really affected my reading that much. I love to pick up a good book and immerse myself for a few hours. Right now I'm reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown,(great read btw) and just finished the latest Wheel of Time novel. I guess it could be that its because I enjoy reading so much that the internet comes second to a good book. Therefore I read more than I surf the web so long passages don't bother me.

You may have contributed to the authors point,Smoke.
The article didn't start with the computer's subtle changes in our "brain patterns" either ... the mechanical clock maybe was more profound . . . The mechanical clock, which came into common use in the 14th century, provides a compelling example. In Technics and Civilization, the historian and cultural critic Lewis Mumford described how the clock “disassociated time from human events and helped create the belief in an independent world of mathematically measurable sequences.” The “abstract framework of divided time” became “the point of reference for both action and thought.” The clock’s methodical ticking helped bring into being the scientific mind and the scientific man. But it also took something away. As the late MIT computer scientist Joseph Weizenbaum observed in his 1976 book, Computer Power and Human Reason: From Judgment to Calculation, the conception of the world that emerged from the widespread use of timekeeping instruments “remains an impoverished version of the older one, for it rests on a rejection of those direct experiences that formed the basis for, and indeed constituted, the old reality.” In deciding when to eat, to work, to sleep, to rise, we stopped listening to our senses and started obeying the clock.

No, he pretty much contradicted the author and the entire point of this thread.
