I'm sorry, but that will only take you so far. The incident I was referring to actually happened here. A white man "jokingly" put a picture of a noose with the caption of "N-word necktie" in a black fellow employee's mailbox or cubicle and got away with it.
That word is an insult. Do not try to feed me shit and tell me it's chocolate, ofay.

whoever did that fed you an insult, and you opened up your mouth to receive it

that's a terrible thing and it says a lot about the person doing it. don't let it have any say for you. the world might be worse off for people like that, but your life doesn't have to be.

i'm not saying those feelings are wrong or that you're not entitled to them, but what do they do for you?

When you've had Klansmen coming after you and your family, calling you out of your name with that word and trying to kill you, then how are you supposed to not be insulted?

Ok, I can agree to disagree. I wouldn't feel insulted in the above case. However, I would be in fear for my life so any insult would be a non-concern if it was me.

So the black lady who stayed in the room with you that night was saying the black nurse was racist to her. Would 'she gave it to you because you were white or didn't give it to me because I was black' be playing the card, so to speak.....

We were confused because the woman and almost all of the nurses in the hospitable were black.

Turmaline, may I offer another possibility, please? If the nurse was lightskinned and the other woman was darkskinned, I recognize the phenomenon. It is entirely possible that the nurse might have discriminated against the woman if there was the darkskinned/lightskinned crap going on. There is that division/problem in the African-American community. I can't speak on the Black Canadian community. So, I ask you to please consider the possibility that the woman was not playing the self-pity card, but was responding to a form of racism you had not seen before.
