duality

i had always heard about duality and eventually learned to conceive it intellectually, but i don't feel like i've ever truly understood the concept as i came to the other day when i decided to smoke to help myself through a bout with the flu.

last week some time i came across this excerpt from osho on ego:

Ego - The False Center

"the false center" summed up my conception of ego rather nicely. i wanted to share it here at the time but didn't have much to add so i let it chill a little bit. i got to thinking about the dual nature of our reality -- light/dark, good/evil, up/down, past/present -- and how it is rooted in the way we perceive our universe. in fact, those things are all perceptions. where the duality comes in is perceiving those things separately. and that, i believe, is a result of perceiving from "the false center."

so from the false center, it only makes sense that an inherently imbalanced inward perspective would cause one to seek arbitrary balance without. maybe it's nothing new to you guys but it was my "aha!" moment of finally wrapping my head around what all these spiritual types have been talking about
