Good intention... here's something half decent talking about the Pagan celebration. It's true many things were brought over to Christianity after the fact... but that doesn't change the way the sun and moon change. No council of whatever can do crap about that.

The Eight Festivals

Quote:
Vernal Equinox

The vernal equinox, sometimes called Ostara, is celebrated in the Northern hemisphere around March 21 and in the Southern hemisphere around September 23, depending upon the specific timing of the equinox. Among the Wiccan sabbats, it is preceded by Candlemas and followed by Beltane.

The name Ostara is from ôstarâ, the Old High German for "Easter". It has been connected to the putative Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre by Jacob Grimm in his Deutsche Mythologie.

In terms of Wiccan ditheism, this festival is characterized by the rejoining of the Mother Goddess and her lover-consort-son, who spent the winter months in death. Other variations include the young God regaining strength in his youth after being born at Yule, and the Goddess returning to her Maiden aspect.

That kid's excited because she's getting an autographed Der Fuhrer picture. "That shit's gonna be worth bucks when the world finds out about the Jews out behind the house!"

I'm actually very happy you said happy Solstice/Easter. because when people tell me "happy Easter" I'm like "...oh, thanks?" Because I am a Pegan and its hard to reply to those things. I don't want to be a damper, or anything, but I don't want people to think I'm Anti-Christ either. So I appreciate it.

Sorry you felt snubbed. I only said you had good intentions and that this is the way I understand the holiday schedule.

The moon and the sun are the markers not the Calender is all I was saying.

Sorry if that was too brash for you.

Like I said... good intentions, appreciated even, but as a friend of the faith, I also would like to see accurate information spread.

Easter was and is a pagan holiday that was renamed and moved for Christian purposes during some aeon long ago.

Honestly, aggression and exclusion isn't my aim here.

I'd like to say my comments seemed way different than the others I was lumped with.

(images of mehanging with 'two criminals' <---easter pun)
Which one of you two guys will repent here!!! ??

Here's another little Easter tidbit...

Without getting into the details, the Christian "Easter" (actually Pascha in Greek) celebration relates in meaning to the Old Testament Jewish "Passover", which is pecach in Hebrew, and this is from the word pacach which means "to hop". Anyone thinking bunnies? I suppose we could have Easter kangaroos, but that would involve a lot more chocolate.
  • At "Easter" the Son, having descended into Hell* is now resurrected to eternal life, offering/providing life to all.
  • At Ostara**, the Sun resurrects life from Mother Earth once again in the eternal cycle, offering/providing life to all. (I don't know if a "pagan" or Wiccan would say it quite this way or not, but this is my take)

* Hell, in simple terms means hidden, as in the grave (Greek hades) - the place where all the plants retreat to all winter long. (Greek Tartaros or Gehenna also translate as "Hell" but have different meanings)

** Ostara, that is, Ēostre derives from Proto-Germanic *austrō, ultimately from a root *au̯es-, meaning "to shine".

So we have the Son/Sun resurrecting new life from "Hell" at Easter/Ostara, and there's a message in this imagery. Whether our world view is Christian or Pagan the message seems clear: The Light of the world continually offers and restores life to all. That Light is Love. Let's share it and be thankful.

I hope everyone had a happy Easter and/or Ostara.

Peace and love,
BG

Yea... but like... Ostara is still celebrated according to the earth's cycles right, not the greco-roman calendar?

I agree about the sun/son and all of that as an allegory/metaphor. And it is when the male-side, born at yule, reaches full maturity to become the consort of lady spring, if you will.

We, my wife and I, celebrate the holiday on the day is happens, which keeps it all it's own and succinctly different from Christian Easter. Unless you celebrate Winter solstice on Christmas too..... then I feel we are going to have an interesting talk here.

Paganism (from Latin paganus, meaning "country dweller", "rustic"[1]) is a blanket term used to refer to various polytheistic*, non-Abrahamic religious traditions. Its exact definition may vary.

Satanism comprises a number of related beliefs and social phenomena. They share the feature of symbolism, veneration or admiration of Satan (or similar figures). Theistic Satanists venerate Satan as a supernatural deity. In contrast, Atheistic Satanists consider themselves atheists and regard Satan as merely symbolic of certain human traits.

The above were snipped from Wikipedia.

The general Christian view seems to be that any/everything not explicitly and doctrinally "Christian" is "Pagan" and thus Satanism. IMHO that view is offensive and misguided.

me thinks this was a 'weeding out' question.

I fail to see how its relevant in this conversation... but perhaps our friend will come back and tie this one in for us.

Hopefully it's just a question and not an assumption, just because I said something different than this person about when it occurs.

So I understood wrong and you did want an actual differentiation?

I honestly mean no harm man. But I'd be lying if I didn't share that I feel you have some 'tone' there yourself fella. I don't take kindly to being called a snob when all I was trying to do what share with you what I perceive to be fact.
