by what action, i do not know, but i do believe in cycles and energy, so i feel that sentience(is that a word?) would be no exception to the properties of cycles. i really cant back up my position with facts but i can say that i BELIEVE because i have felt, without a doubt, that i am connected to something higher and larger than myself.

I am not a believer in the "I die, then my spirit leaves my body, then my spirit goes into a new body, then I'm reincarnated" idea of reincarnation. The reason being is, I think it's an ego trick. People are afraid to lose their "self", so they've invented a way to take it with them when "they" die.

My beliefs are more along the lines of this: There is only one "I". When I, The Rev, dies, then experience of The Rev's memories and such are gone. However, I, SpankyMcLankey, lives on, so there is always I. I is eternal, but that which is experienced by I is in constant flux, with nothing being permanent.

That's why I believe in reincarnation.

i don't believe in reincarnation for the same reason i don't believe in an omnipotent supernatural being: i simply have no compelling reason to believe in it.

i'm not saying it's impossible that we have something like a soul that continues to exist after our current bodies die and then gets put into another body, but i've never been presented with any evidence that we do.

lol i think it's funny how you put that in quote form. but honestly i think that if you're going to use that particular law of physics as evidence for reincarnation, you have to also believe in a soul which exists as a form of energy, which is where it ends for me.

What's the punch line?

*pie in face !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe in it.

What happens?

Kind of think alone the lines of The Rev.

I like to ponder these mystery question with this general mindset laid out below.

Some one once asked the Buddah for the no beating around the bush answer to the same question. Buddha replied, 'If there is not reincarnation what would you do differently than if there was. If there is reincarnation, what would you do differently than if there wasn't?'

In other words, What is the core of this? What good does knowing do? What would you do if you did know for sure?

Namaste,
SageTree

i'm no biologist, but i believe it's got something to do with respiration or some shit. things that are alive have active chemical processes occurring in them. things that are dead are dead.

i dunno, it just doesn't seem to me like there's any more logical reason to believe in reincarnation than there is to believe in a flying spaghetti monster who grants wishes. i'm not trying to shit on anyone's beliefs here, trust me, but for me in order to believe in reincarnation you must first believe in magic, which i don't.

I voted yes, because I think there is, but am still not completely decided... its one of those things that will take a lifetime to contemplate after listening to a lifetime of different opinions.

I vote yes because voting no would feel bad. However reincarnation in itself doesn't sound all that much easier to understand than anything else.

yes but not how most ppl think it is. i dont believe in the whole i will be a bird or another person thing. i think we do get recycled by the universe. but i dont see a way that your soul/consciousness w/e you wanna call it can stay in one piece. most things get broken down into basic matter, i cant really thing of something that doesnt eventually disperse. even stars disperse after supernovas and their blast disperses everything around it. soooo i think that everything that makes up a person is reused, its just not assigned to that specific person anymore if that makes any sense.

i believe in an afterlife but i will surely admit its not logical. some stuff just isnt. the existence of existence isnt logical but existence exists.

somehow, shit happened when there was no good reason to.

im not very clear on exactly what the afterlife entails but theres no logical reason to believe that when we die we're completely gone either. call it a hunch.

thats pretty much what any argument on the existence of an afterlife comes down to at this point anyway. my hunch vs. your hunch.

so what properties does this 'energy' have?

my belief is that its identity. without bodies all we are is self aware energy anyway. take the body away theres no reason that energy should be gone. when we dream we arent using our bodies to perceive yet somehow we can still do it. this is where you enter the territory of debating whether consciousness creates the body or the body creates consciousness, which i think consciousness has a non-physical origin.

but again just brainfarting here, not like we can argue logically on this topic

theres definitely physical changes that occur.. blood stops feeding oxygen to the cells etc. but what really has changed? especially in cases where people die without trauma or just die suddenly it seems like something is imediately 'gone' from the body. so much so that the 'person' is transformed into a 'body'. these are just philosophical ideas, i dont think anyone can really answer the question i posed.

If there IS reincarnation, I want to come back in my next life as a Bristlecone Pine Tree. The idea of just being for like 10,000 years really works for me. This human life is overwhelming, honestly.
