Death Dreams

Hey, I don't know if this belongs here, but I die a lot in my dreams.

I had a dream the other day where every time I killed myself, I would just spawn somewhere else like a character in a video game spawning at a checkpoint, and I assumed whatever deeds I did prior would be erased; because, you know, I killed myself.

Holy shit the pain* of killing myself with a knife. I remember it well. Of all the ways to kill myself, that was the worst. The best was drowning, jumping off a high building/cliff, and shooting myself in the head. But drowning by far. Although, drowning doesn't always work that way because sometimes when I'm under water, I will inhale, waiting to die, only to be able to find out I can breathe underwater.

I die a LOT in my dreams. A lot. This is the first time it's happened repeatedly in the same dream.

I assume many of you also have dreams where you die, and it's probably not all that uncommon. But I was wondering - if you do; what is your average state of mind? Would you be able to kill yourself in real life? Is that an option for you? Do you think about suicide a lot?

Eh. Stupid post I guess because dreams are fucking dreams... but I wanted to write this down somewhere because seriously I'm always dying in my goddamn dreams. But that's just it - everyone has crazy dreams of unimaginable varieties so why should mine be unique in comparison to anyone elses, right? In a dream anything and everything is possible, always.

I guess in the end they are nothing more than stories from our souls told by the subconscious thoughts in our minds manifesting a pictorial form while we sleep.

*I feel pain in my dreams, and also see in color and have a sense of smell which I'm sure is quite common too.

I've never died in a dream; but I do have occurrences of seeing people that I know that have died in my dreams once after they die.
Three people I knew died in the same month about two years ago and within six months each of them visited me in my dreams briefly... so now it's like something I get to look forward to when someone I know passes.

My dad died when I was 2, and that had never happened until a few years ago I had a dream with him in it; all he did was hug me though

That's awesome.

Thinking back, I've also had a few similar dreams (I remember very little about) that had my deceased grandfather in them, but in said dreams it wasn't anything special. It was like he had been alive all along. Just memory association or something.

That's pretty cool that you are aware, in your dreams, they are visiting you.

Freddy Kreuger would be fucked trying to kill you then, man. Of course, even if it isn't true that dying in a dream means dying in real life, the opposite will always be true.

i have a ton of dreams where im in mortal danger, i dont know how many i actually die in but i have had the underwater dreams like yours. i either find out i can breath underwater, or that i can hold my breath indefininitly. i have alot of dreams where i will be flying around like superman and or im just falling. and i pullup/learn how to fly again right before i hit.

most of the time i wake up right before i get hit by a bus or hit the ground tho

Recently I've had a couple dreams of dying. One I was in a passenger plane that all the sudden split in half and caught on fire, don't really remember much of the rest. But the other day I had one of the most terrifying dreams, just because it felt so real, so vivid.. too real. I was in a car filling it up with gas and all the sudden the gas started spraying everywhere, with the pressure of a fire hose. I remember the fear of what was happening and remember thinking "oh shit I'm gonna die". The gas ignited along with the car and I was burning to death. I started screaming at the top of my lungs and woke up still screaming. But the dream felt so much like reality that I thought I was dead.. opened my eyes and couldn't believe i was still alive. never had a dream that felt so real like that, really hard to explain. dreams are weird..

I find it is a lot easier to remember your dreams when you wake up and then go back to sleep for like 2 hours & dream then. I had the most intense dream this morning, it was the scariest dream i ever had. It resembled everything of a bad acid trip.

Buzz lightyear was on a little board (i guess like a snowboard) and was flying around, and i was following behind him. He then entered this cave and was kinda on a track. And this track just spiraled Down and Down and Down, the farther he went the more intense it got. Then it would all change and it was me and another guy crawling through the cave/track and we had our human bodies n such. Then it would switch back to just our sight flying behind him.

Anyway it all climaxed to the end. God it was so intense. lol. It was just a spiral cave going down, pretty fast. And then it turned back into ourselves crawling/sliding down the cave and BOOM! we come around the corner and hit a dead end. We start panicking because theres no way we could reverse all that and get back out. So i cut through the dead end and came up through a floor into a room. And saw a giant camera lens the size of the wall, looking at me. I was in utter fright at this point. It was so horrific and intense. Then i woke up....

Words really cant describe it, I was scared shitless though.

i have dreams all the time where i die but it's never a big deal. sometimes i feel really anxious and the experience stretches out, i guess you could say. like one time i was avoiding velociraptors. it was really intense, and when i got trapped everything slowed down as it/they closed in on me. it wasn't just the event slowing but the feeling as well.

afterwards i always spawn back or move to different themes in my dreaming

Its crazy how you can revert to different things in your dream, or go back to them later on but the slightest thing could be different. Ive never died in any dreams. Probably because the fear of dying was so intense i would wake up

To me, dreams of death signify the ending of something....a new path is open... some aspect of your life has completed and its time to think about moving on to something new..

It says to me that you are supported in that...

I've never died in a dream, but I remember this one dream where me and my sis when into my elementary school, and it turned into a shopping mall, and then some manaquins jumped out of a display, killed my sister, and I started running Oh ya and the cars where giant 32 puzzle lighthouses (I had one of these when I was younger). I think I might've fallen in lava in one of my dreams, but I dont really remember.

I'm slogging through all the old posts, looking for interesting shit that went to the wayside. Like this.

I had only one dream where I died. It was pretty odd, but like all dreams it made perfect sense at the time.
I was surfing off a small, white sand island (Like Roshi's island in DBZ, but the house was different and no anime peoples were there), just having a good time. Then, out of nowhere, a huge rouge wave comes up. Thing must have been a good 50+ feet high. I got swept up on it, I was riding the crest of this thing. The wave approached the islan, getting taller and taller. It started to crash down o the island, with me on the top of it. Right as it impacted the sand, a 747 came out of nowhere and crashed right on top of me, so it was like a double whammy of death. Right as all this came together, I zoomed out of my body and found myself sitting on the couch, watching my own death on a TV news broadcast. Pretty surreal, but in the dream I was all like "Yeah, ok, that makes sense".

This happens to me as well Cat. It's such an amazing beautiful experience.

Aurora, I've never died in a dream that I can remember. Usually when I get into a situation where I'd likely die, a realize it a dream and wake up or the dream just changes.

Dreams are on the spectrum of things where they are 'real' in the sense we experience the emotion and feeling in them, with out much choice. The other side of the spectrum would be a video game we become engulfed in where the situation is totally contrived , but we have utter choice. Still 'real' in a processing way.

And then we have our life in the middle, not contrived (no satire here ) and not simple as pie when we press a command key, so to speak.

My point here is 'what is real'?? And what makes an experience valid?

I wouldn't discredit your dreams based on that.

I wish I had more to add...

So I'll just close with a dream thread I started..... and there is the link if you want to read further....

Usually I do recall my dreams although some are certainly more vivid that others.

Recently as I come towards the morning, I feel myself walk up a hill, as I ascend from sleep. I'm in a forest that I 'know' but don't exact the spot which I came from. The trail is down the hill from the start/end point, which I don't recall descending as I fall to sleep.
What I see, as I wake, is a temperate rain forest full of Cedar, ferns and moss. And I've come to notice these are the same trees I see each morning, so I'm coming from the same area each night. The part I 'see' is generally the same distance walked every time, with few exceptions.

That is one thing recently happening I'd like to mention.

The dream that made me wish to post was this.

Sunday night as I slept well I came to find myself sitting on the edge of a hospital bed, talking to someone who I assume was my Wife, as I couldn't see who was beside me. I also couldn't see myself, which does sometimes happen that I dream in a third person view.
What lay before me was a body that was cut in half, stripped of it's organs and merely heaped there on this bed. I had this overwhelming feeling that this was me, although the 'person' laying there looked different than I.
I took the pieces and examined them, looking inside the skull and inside the rib cage. This wasn't scary, even though what I was handling was pretty much a mummified looking corpse.

I took a hand of the body and raised in to me forehead, as I bowed before this vessel that seemed to be mine. Again who was I talking to. I took a moment an thanked the corpse for carrying me so long, again giving me the feeling that it was me and I was somehow outside of it.

As I raised my head I noticed an infant laying beside the mass of body. I recognized this baby as myself, meaning that it looked like me, although at this point I wasn't sure if that was me. I said to the entity beside me, "That is what I looked like when I was born".

After that I had this overwhelming feeling of gratitude and thanks for everything in the dream that was happening.

Slowly I began to awake and ascend the familiar forest trail to my dreams of late.

When I woke up this feeling of thanks stayed with me all day.

I'm interested to hear if any, are thoughts of symbols of the dream.

Rebirth is obviously one that comes to mind, which I take could be a literal sight into a past life, but I also see it in a today sense, that I am going through new births all the time.

It felt really special to have this dream and it's been interesting to evaluate change in my life right now, which is still of the normal schema and vein of growth and discovery, but one thing I noticed was that I felt lighter since I've had this dream. When something like that sticks with you, it's hard to deny it's presence.

Thanks for letting me share, and please add anything you'd like personally or to me.

Namaste'
