Unhappy Do you believe in the bible?

I know it's been done to death and thus no poll, but seriously

I say this because I see soooooo many people that go to church, do the dogmatic rituals that is Mass...psss

If you believe in the bible, shouldn't you just read it at home and ask god for your sins to be forgiven thee if no one human is available to forgive you?

I guess the reason I do so many research chems is that I am so long religious wise. My mom brought me up so strict that I will do anything to defy her.

Anyway, getting back on track. here's from the king james matthew part...

27Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery.

28But *I* say unto you, that every one who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

31It has been said too, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a letter of divorce.

32But *I* say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for cause of fornication, makes her commit adultery, and whosoever marries one that is put away commits adultery.

38Ye have heard that it has been said, Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.

39But *I* say unto you, not to resist evil; but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;

It's how my mum believes. so basically, the bible says the ONLY way to rightfully divorce is in the case of fooling around. If your wife/husband is a drug addict/alcoholic/physical abuser, and HE or SHE is the one to file divorce, the other cannot remarry in the eyes of God, they are forced to live a life of misery with not spouse and is destined to be a lonely mother fucker...

Should I just chuck the bible if I don't like several parts? That's how I see it...There is no wiggle room for religion the way i see it. (or my mom at least)

She believes the only music that isn't a sin is one played with a solemn sound...but isn't it only "praises to the Lord" that should be sung with a solemn [harp ten stringed] sound? Sing Unto the Lord

help me guys, no joke

I think the Bible is full of great stuff, but to take it as a literal rule book is to miss out on the larger value of it. There's alot to think about in the Bible, and one who gives it an honest contemplation has alot, potentially, to gain. But you have to evaluate it, and interpret it, and look for the deeper meaning and broader message.

Just another book full of fairy tales and fables...The stories are to be used to articulate lessons to re-enforce the dogma of what a group of people thought society should be...There are such books for every civilization/sect of beliefs...Do I read it for understanding into the human experience, yes...Do I read it to have some sort of elitism over other groups, no...Do I read it as a means for a ticket to "heaven", certainly not...

It is just a collection of stories, the gravity of it's words lie within the perception of the individual...

Well your mom + MILF girlfriend + bible is a recipe for disaster. You just can't even begin to please those three things at once.

yes i totally believe in the bible.
i also believe that ppl who take the english translation and make it into a literal rule book (as the rev says) are ppl who dont get it and need to study a little harder, and sincerely ask God for understanding.

ASG, I was waiting for you to answer.

I just can't stand it when people boast about going to church like they're some fucking saint. My moms side of the family shuns her because she got like 1/3 the total will money and they call themselves Christians? fuckin retardo world I live in. Money is a damn crazy drug....

I personally don't believe it's anything more credible than the Harry Potter series, and that at least was factually accurate in places. Let the meek have their crutch.

I don't believe in the bible. Putting my belief in the bible would be like putting my belief in a science text from the 19th century.
In fact I don't put my belief in any book or manifestation of human musings, rationalizations, beliefs etc, since they're all just static representations of a tiny portion (a person or group of people) of humanity at a given point in time. In actuality our understanding of our realities is constantly changing.
The Bible represents the views and intent of a specific group of people from nearly 2000 years ago, how they saw their reality and in a sense, how they thought their reality should be. I have no reason to believe it since I have no reason to believe.
Every example of human conjecture is just an instance in that person's interprative reaction to the world around them. I have no reason to make a belief of any of it, since I have no reason to believe.
I have no reason to believe because the instance in which I exist, on the path of time across which I live, is constantly changing, unique to every moment before it. If this is how I think, how could I believe? Or more precisely, form a belief.
My understanding of reality is constantly evolving. So instead of believing the things I read, or see, or hear, etc, I only try to consider them. I try and figure things out, and the things I can't figure out, I just keep figuring.

So yeah. Yee all my know me as 'The Great Figurer, Sir Exmandeus'
