Sufi Music and It's Roots: It's all about the Love

I hesitated to put this in SS because it's not just about spirit, but thought this isn't entirely for Music forum stuff either.

Then I thought maybe Mellow Stoners?

Blah.... you know... it's a diverse thing here, but at the heart of this is Love and the Sufi Way, so I put it in here at last.

So I wish to share this MUSIC w/ you first, but I can't fake their isn't some worth in sharing another understanding and experience of a Way in Islam as well as the 'Soul' of the practice.

There is some of the theology of Sufism and why it is what it is. That's because the ethnography of the religion and the music , in this case at least, aren't separate.

Sufism's heart perhaps has stayed the constant, but the way and expression through music, a key ingredient in Sufism, is diverse and really cool.

I was nearly ready to start whirling around the living room myself as the music played and the heart of this was expressed, I was moved deeply inside.

I personally connect w/ this larger view of Unity in Spirit and the translations of words and music led to empathetical verklempt-ness by the end of this film.

Maybe it will have some merit as music or philosophy. I humbly share this:

Cathartic is the one word that comes to mind when I hear this music.

Definitely on my list of " I'd be dancing a whole hell of a lot more if this stuff was played in the clubs, cafes and discos more often"

It's a pity that your religious sect can't get any street cred unless there are terrorist cells associated with it (or boy fucking).

Nice music man! I love the music of non-Western cultures in general.

Well, the claim is the Muhammad Jalal ad-Din Rumi was the best selling poet in the whole 90s really speaks to me that the word sound be out there more than it is. I've been in some charismatic church services before and I could really see The Sufis getting down with a Gospel choir dancing and whirling in the aisles, ya know? I think the passion and equanimity of the message is astounding up lifting. If I'm not mistaken, Sufism was the sect of Islam building the Mosque causing lots of concern in NYC and am sure more people know what Sufis are now And when I say 'know', I mean a new fancy word to hate on.

There are some Sufis here in the city I'm living in and I've been pondering going to Mosque more regularly and given the liberal and open traditions here I think finding an predominantly Sufi influence place of worship could be heady!

This is me whirling outside a Sufi Mosque/School in Sarajevo, I could hear tunes from inside and couldn't help myself....

Boy and I thought I was getting some peeps and head turns before

Bump...

Had an awesome talk with a older Sufi gentleman last night in the mall.

My beard has been it's own threshold (sufi pun) into talking with folks from many faiths.

Two days ago it was a Sikh man who asked me about my 'natural' look.
