Quitting pot after a very long period & dreams - my experience and yours

Hi,

Firstly this may be the wrong forum.. feel free to move.

Anyway I just wanted to share a random experience with you guys, mostly since many of my real life friends now don't smoke and so wouldn't appreciate it.

I am 24 yrs old and have been smoking pot since about 14. Since about 18 I have been smoking at least once a day. I have had brief periods of not smoking pot and experienced the 'crazy dreams' but this one period has I think been the longest, and is becoming most interesting. Also I have a long time partner of 7 years or so. Why this last point is relevant is in the next paragraph.

So I stopped smoking pot, at least for now, and for the last 10 nights - every night - I have had a dream. The topic of the dreams are mostly unremarkable, the usual random abstract stuff that we dream about. What IS weird is that in my dreams, with the exception of my partner who is sometimes in them, there is NOBODY in my life who I have met since about 14 years old. My dreams are populated entirely by all my primary / intermediate (I think USA calls this elementary) friends. When I dream about locations - for example last night I was in the work place of a relative - I am in the workplace that they had a long time ago.

I find this most interesting and wonder if it's just some random coincidence or if my brain is picking up where it left off, lol.

Anyone ever have anything similar? Or any other strange themed dreams when they quit smoking pot?

i always dream a lot more (that i can remember) after i stop smoking pot, but i always sleep a lot sounder when i am smoking pot. this is weird because i love dreams and will keep going back to sleep all day to keep continuing a particularly good one.

the fucked up thing is i had an experience almost identical to yours

when i quit smoking for a month one time after smoking for a long time i had the same thing with lots of vivid dreams and i really actually liked it a lot i had all sorts of crazy dreams and like every morning i would have a new crazy dream to remember. some were happy others sad etc, and yea a lot of them did have random people from childhood in them that i havent seen in years etc...

crazy shit bro cuz i had almost the exact same thing happen to me as you did.

ill bet its biology somehow, maybe someday scientists will be able to tell us exactly why we had such crazy dreams after stopping smoking.

Same with me, only took 4 days without weed for the dreams to come.
I'm not like you guys tho. I don't like them.
The more I dream the less quality sleep I get, which is at an all time low anyways from not smoking.

i quit smoking like 6 months ago when i moved back home after college and all my dreams that i remember usually are about highschool friends and situations. i rarely dream about people from college or gfs there but even girls from highschool that i had a thing for like a week show up pretty frequently. its like my pot smoking days dont qualify for dream material or something lol. altho i did smoke in highschool it wasnt as often or as much as in college since i smoked pretty much every single day there.

Mikey, you should see a sleep therapist, that's often an early sign of sleep apnea which is bad for your general and mental health

Being taught how to relax your muscles and mind properly prior to sleep should resolve your problem

As for the dreams during a break ..... yes, me too, I was told it was the THC receptors unblocking ..

not related to weed but sort of related to the topic, in my dreams I never live in my current house, its always the house I grew up in, which I find weird.

There are psychologists who say that smoking marijuana, especially at an early age, slows the brain's maturation process. Maybe your brain really is trying to pick up where it left off? Not sure how studied that little tidbit is, so here's your grain of salt.

Myself, I never really dream. At least, nothing I ever recall. Supposedly we dream every night but meh.
REM =/= dreaming. Anywho, Ive had to stop smoking several times and no vivid dreaming or anything. I always get a bout of insomnia though.

I can always remember my dreams better when I'm not smoking. I can never really remember many parts of dreams I've had when I am smoking regularly.

I know that I do dream when smoking, and definately get the more vivid dreams, or at least more vivid memories of dreams when I have breaks.

I've never noticed this theme of earlier memories etc, but something interesting to consider next time I have a break (ha!)

Maybe you have more current dreams while you're stoned, and when you stop your brain reverts back to a different state and continues dreaming about stuff it was doing last time it was in that unstoned state?

once i stopped smoking and i had a dream i was in the supermarket vegetable section and all the displays were just piles of herb. i literally filled my pockets and then woke up, im guessing thats some sort of indication of addiction or something lol
