Age/Date of Birth
Hello all, does anyone know the name for this little trick I learned of today?
If you take the last 2 digits from the year you were born and add them to the age you will be on your birthday in 2011, the answer is 111. It seems to work for every age/year combo, and just increases by 1 every year, so last year the answer was 110 and next year 112 etc. Example, my year of birth is 1980 and I'll be 31 sooner than I'd like, so 80 + 31 = 111 79 + 32 = 111 58 + 53 = 111 30 + 81 = 111 ...and so on. Cool little fact to impress your mates with, but what is it's name... it must have a name... anyone? Google was not too helpful/my search terms were rubbish. |

Maths.
![]() If a= the first digit in the last two digits of your year of birth multiplied by 10. and, b=the second digit in the last two digits of your year of birth. We can say that x=a+b+(2011-(1900+a+b)) In which, 1900+a+b is the year you where born and therefore, (2011-(1900+a+b) is the age you will be this year. Rearranging the above equation gives, x=a+b+2011-1900-a-b a & b cancel themselves out in that equation so no matter what the value of a & b the answer will always be 111.

Nice
![]() I do understand the maths behind it, just someone was going on about it before and it's something I had never noticed, I thought it'd be a well known brain teaser type thingy with a particular name. I suppose maths will do, that is a well known brain teaser type thingy with a particular name after all.
