Abusing the MMJ System
A big criticism from the anti medical marijuana camp is that many people are abusing the system. That is, people who just want to get high are finding ways to get med cards so they can smoke pot, even though they don't really need it for medical reasons.
Well, let's face it, that IS a fair claim. I know plenty of people who got their cards for problems that were either treatable in other ways, or simply weren't serious enough to require marijuana. Now, I'm not saying ALL people with cards, because I know plenty for whom marijuana is the only reasonable medicine for their chronic pain, cancer nausea, and other problems. But there ARE people who have cards primarily because they want access to weed for recreational purposes. That being said, I now come to my point. What the anti-MMJ crowd isn't considering is that there is a fairly large population of people out there who really would prefer to be smoking pot LEGALLY. They are people who like weed AND want to be in good with the law. Now, the question this provokes in my mind is: Can you really say that pot smokers are motivated by criminal impulses if they are willing to pay money and get their name on a list to "be legal"? What I see in these "abusers" of the system are a population of otherwise responsible people who are saying they want acceptance by society and not to be labelled criminals. They aren't thumbing their nose at law and order, they're asking permission to embrace it, because that is their natural inclination. And to force them out says more about the prejudices of the anti-pot crowd than it does about the real and ongoing intentions of those they oppose. ![]() The Rev |

One of the things that makes cannabis useful as medicine is the relative harmlessness of the side affects compared to other medicines.
For the same reason it also makes a good recreational drug compared to others..

'I get bummed out when I run out of weed, medical marijuana cures that...'
Ron White. I'm actually one of those rare folks who doesn't have a medical condition that requires pot, I just like to get high. That said I agree MM is a farce and the process of finding a doctor for a recommendation and showing your 'license' at the clinic and all that bull shit. How about I show my state I.D. that says I am free (hah!) white and over 18 and therefore have the right to put whatever it is I want into my body without fear of PRISON for choosing weed over alcohol.
