Memory Techniques...
![]() Anyone know about the 'linking' method to remember lists of stuff to do.. in order? Such a great method I'm going to teach it to my young learners. Basically it involves choosing a route or place you know well and selecting stand out places or objects from it. I started out with the route from my front gate through the house into the back garden. Now you have your list of however many things to do and you make an association with each with the place on your route. The crazier, bigger and funnier.. the better. For example, I may need to remember to call a friend, so one of the places on my route is the washing line just after opening the gate. I imagine that instead of a washing line it is a strong with two cups attached. I talk at one end and the friend I wanted to call listens at the cup at the other end. The beauty of the route is that you can also remember the order in which to do certain tasks or things. Try it yourself, if you haven't yet! Some pointers.. 1. Pick a route you are familiar with and objects/places that you regularly use/visit or would notice easily. 2. Make the association anything but mundane. The crazier the more likely it will spring to mind. And of course, as with everything, practice makes perfect. I haven't been trying this for long, but I'm already getting faster and expansing the places on my own route. If you do give it a go, post here some of the craziest associations you made.. and or any other methods you use to remember things. M Last edited by Mescalito; 04-23-2011 at 09:17 AM. |

Yea i have used this one before, but instead of a place / route, i just make up ridiculous stories.

my best memory trick is to group things. or to use other words to remind me.
for example DNA is made up of introns and exons(different sequences of dna). introns are trimmed off when the dna is transcribed into RNA. i remember this by saying in my head "exons are EXtremely important." exon sounds like extremely to me. the mind is really powerful and does well at connecting things. if you conciously make connections you can essentially hack your brain into being a memory trap

Today I had to call someone so the other day I imagined that when I wake up and open the door to the house for the first time in the morning.. I imagined that instead of the door to the house, it was the door to this... Then Bill and Ted came out and did the guitar thing.. and said you gotta call your most excellent friend dude.. its of utmost important maaaan. It worked.. and even made me laugh as I remembered it.
