The Internet
The Internet is designed for mass consumption and input, and both are maintained at an almost equal level no matter what the context of either stands to be. Nothing in history has ever been able to produce, preserve, and perpetuate the collection of thoughts and ideas of everyone on the planet so well, whether it be directly or indirectly.
It is becoming interwoven with our world and the ways in which we live our lives so much so, that it is changing the very ways we look at the world and our existence. It does this by default of it's nature, as you cannot collect the thoughts/ideas/opinions of the people themselves rather than those purpoted to represent them without coming to agreeable conclusions on life, love, and liberties which transcend current personal and social barriers. This does not bode well for those who have been in power for so very long in this world, because radical change in the way people see the world, means radical change in the way people see in the world they've helped create for us. A world based on greed, hatred, and fear... when all people want is love, happiness, and fulfillment. Does anyone believe the Internet may be the greatest invention of all time? Both in impact and continuous potential. I truly think that it is a near-pinnacle manifestation of both consciousness and technology. I also believe it is harder than it should be to be reminded of how big a mark on history its advent will leave, because we are in the the middle of whirlwind.

i dont think theres a greatest invention of all time. theres no greatest anything of all time. theres alot of great shit but no greatest.
the internet IS great indeed. but i see greater things still coming down the road. when we dont even need computers cuz the internet is in our heads, for example. when we can take our own consciousness and connect to a global network that exists in our collective minds. basically the internet is a link in a never-ending chain of awesome shit.

True, there is no definitive greatest invention. Me saying 'greatest of all time' is more reflective of it being the greatest invention relative to what I personally value greatly, which is consciousness and the psychology/sociology of people.
Everyone has their own 'greatest invention', but I'm just using mine to foster some higher thoughts!

for passing information yes.. for helping progress humanity as a whole.. hell no.. look at whats happening to people on Facebook, MySpace, etc.. its controlling people with a different form of media other than television. the individual, however, can stand to learn a lot through the internet.

Whenever I consider the ultimate and long-term impact that the Internet will have on the world, I think of the changes wrought by Gutenberg's printing press. The printing press, which made information available for mass consumption (books were copied by hand prior to its invention) brought Europe out of the Dark Ages and ushered in the Enlightenment. The power of the Church in Rome diminished, as did the power of the aristocracy and monarchies that ruled at the time, and democracy came into being to replace it. It was the greatest cultural upheaval in the history of civilization.
The printing press is no more than a mosquito bite on the ass of the Internet, in terms of its upheaval potential. ![]() The Rev |

Also, I feel totally comfortable saying it's the greatest invention of all time, by a long shot. I don't think there's any relativity or subjectivity to it at all. It's not a matter of opinion, it's an empirical fact. The Internet is the greatest creation of Man's mind of all time.

I think overall the internet is one of the greatest things ever but certain websites like Facebook and other social media sites are a detriment to society...imo.
Also pornography is too readily available for young kids. Then you have the pedophiles taking advantage of youngsters too.

You can literally look up and learn how to do everything. Information that once used to be something you could only get from a classroom or if you knew the right person is right there. It's insane.
Also, porn.

The internet isn't an invention so much as it is the first step in the shift of conciseness from our human organic form to a symbiotic meld between digital and organic beings...
