Id like to add this...

While i believe in jesus's message i would never dare label myself a christian.

To associate myself with such horrible acts spanning thousands of years is not something i wish to do.

It is a shame they bastardized his name, but they did.

I think you should just be a terryian, Terry. fuck Christianity. Live the life you think is right.

If you need a label i say go Yahookan.
What better to label yourself with than your family's name

huh... of all the ppl i never would have thought to gravitate to any sort of religion, it is(was) you terry. im not saying this in a bad way, mind you. im pretty much the opposite, was more religious earlier, to the spiritual state im at now... no religion, but do believe in god, whatever it, (not he or she because that denotes god as having a gender, thus having to reproduce) might be. i was baptized a protestant, raised a catholic, have read about several eastern religions, and even dabbled in the occult. i still like to play with rune stones and tarot cards. i also know how to read tea leaves. it's fun.

anyways, good for you terry. christ's teachings are great, the bible can be a good thing, if not taken literally, but i know you know that. it's basically like: do be a good person and help others, don't try to cut a baby in half to prove your wisdom from god.... you know. all kidding aside, i hope you find an answer to those questions in your op, and i hope you find fulfillment in this new spiritual path. if there is someone out there that would be a great christian, it's someone like you, terry.

I hope deadhead wasn't banned for his comments in my thread, because I was not offended by his posts and welcome his point of view.

I shot off a reply in the 'deadhead banned?' thread explaining my take on things.

Terry I have a lot to say and am not sure if here or private is best, but what you said really struck a chord with me and I'd like to input some of my own thoughts and questions.

Running low on time today as I am just figuring out this TOR solution to my internet issues, and hopefully after a little contemplation and a re-read or two I'll have something to show for it tomorrow.

What most people have said in here is good stuff so far.

Good on you, Good Luck.

Peace be with you.

Terry I know I've mentioned this to you before but reading Tolstoy's "The Kingdom Of God Is Within You" really did me some good. and you get the thrill of reading a banned book. it was banned in his native Russia for it's anarchist themes.

Here check it out..

It's really a simple question you got to ask yourself

"Would I ever find myself more interested in reading the stat line of the game instead of watching the highlights"

Jesus was Joe-Cool the ice cold champion...The rest of that shit is like reading the rule book, stat line or sitting around yamming about a third string fullback...

Of course you are interested...

Is being a Christian merely reading and digesting Christ's words and deeds and trying to apply them into your life while remaining humble and with an open mind?

I dunno. Lot of questions. Probably more still I have forgotten. Needless to say it has been an interesting few months. That spiritual crevasse I have left dormant for so long seems to have sprung anew and I'm at a loss of how to proceed filling it.
i think if you look though the gospels again sometime you may find that these questions are addressed. the typical "christian" thing for me to do would be to give you verses by book chapter and number and then tell you what they mean and how they answer your questions, but i dont want to do that, because i personally find it hard to trust answers handed out in that way.

maybe you are coming to recognize that filling up your "spiritual crevasse" by yourself is impossible.

A lot of it really has to do with how people view Christ.
I mean, if you are looking at Him purely from the standpoint of His words in the Canonical Gospels, the character and words of Christ change drastically. In Mark, He is world-weary and critical of people asking Him for help, but in Luke He is a social crusader for the downtrodden, in Matthew He is an over-demanding prick who constantly praises Peter over and over (Matthew gives the most invented picture of Jesus, look at the strong Moses parallels), and in John He an arrogant figure of perfection outlined purely to convert (John states this quite clearly, twice.). It gets even more interesting if you add in the non-canonical books like Thomas where Christ is a distant sage preaching transcendence. Also note these were all written after the initial establishment of the Jewish sect worshiping Jesus as the Son of God.

In essence, there is relatively little that shows the actual authentic words of Christ, however great they may have been. When you read the Gospels, you are reading accounts of what people want to tell about the man we know as Jesus Christ.

A note on the canonical books, although I like the other writings you've mentioned...

Matthew is about proving Jesus' Jewishness, hence the Moses reference,

Mark is about his apocalyptic mission, which is why he is seemingly frustrated through out the book, I also think Mark's Christology is LOW as it doesn't include a virgin birth, and Jesus seems 'confused' or 'unsure' near the end of 'why he has to die'

(read the end of mark and luke when he's on the cross)
IE Why have you forsake men vs forgive them for they know not what they do

Luke is about his sacrifice, which is why he 'knows' exactly what's up throughout the book (for the most part)

John is about the Christology of Jesus, which is a HIGH one to say the least, this is where His 'miracles' become 'signs'.....

Here is a little more info about the Gospels and their writers, which puts 'THEIR' Jesus more into perspective, and it really casts light into the shadows of certain words, meaning and actions.

Four Evangelists
