What If?
I was watching this thing about the Holocaust last night, and they were talking about the Nazi doctors who performed all kinds of horrific testing on Jewish subjects. It got me to thinking. What if, in the course of their work, they found the cure for cancer (and it turned out that that was the only way that it could have been found, was by human experimentation)? How would this change history's view of the Holocaust?

people would be more willing to admit that a lot of doctors are just pure psychopaths. And have to be.
how else could you desensitize yourself enough to cut open a kids face, hammer the bones apart with a chisel, crack it open with a spreader...etc.... i don't fault them, but I don't lie to myself, either. this with some of the bedside manners I've witnessed leave me with little doubt that psychopathy is perhaps higher than average among doctors. But I'm just a man, not a statistic, and lo, i am anecdotal |

Finding a cure that could save millions would be the only redeeming quality from that event.
But, as the stem cell debate evolves, so will our experimentation techniques.

Rev if that were the case, then i shudder to think of what would be going on now.
Human experimentation would probably be the quickest most affordable route for good results. And if it had such backing as the cure for cancer was found through its methods im sure certain evil greedy people would run wild with it. Wars fought against victims so dehumanized by mass media it wouldnt matter if they disappeared for the good of mankind... but yeah no doubt our society will hit mad-scientist level soon enough, thank god it hasn't happened yet.

Thing was, those doctors were psycho nut nuts and they weren't looking for a cure for cancer. They were sadists that just happened to like torturing people, lamp shades made of human skin and other creepy stuff. So the question may be inherently infeasible as serious researchers tend not to carry on like that. The holocaust would have been different or maybe not have happened if the nazis had given a shit about the advance of scientific knowledge. If anything science tends to show that their ideas about eugenics were totally stupid and motivated by political opportunism.

Way too complicated a question with infinite variables for any real answer. My line of thinking is that if the cure were found, and made available (which is a whole other can of worms), would cancer even be the Big Scary that it is today? Would it be as rampant, would it stir such a feeling in people? Or would our cancer of today be a different disease? In that case the good of the cure wouldn't wipe out the bad of genocide, especially because the cure would be considerably smaller of a feat than we see it as today.

Umm didn't you know they did find the cure? No? You must be Jewish, pro Jew, or maybe even just know a Jew. If thats the case then you weren't getting no cure for your cancer, jew lover..
![]() I agree with Farmer, they weren't doing anything but getting their jollies off.

I'm willing to admit Volkswagons are pretty cool.

If there is something of medical value in someone's body, it is entirely justified to do whatever it takes to research it and make it of use. Even if so called unethical treatment lead to the discovery in the first place.
If your blood holds the cure for HIV, fuck you, you're now a guinea pig whether you like it or not. |
