11 Satanic Rules of Earth

What do you think about these rules? They're the official rules of Satanism. I think they could actually take you pretty far in life. Especially number 4.

1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.

2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.

3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.

4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.

5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.

6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.

7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.

8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.

9. Do not harm little children.

10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.

11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

Rather dismissive, especially for you, rev.

I look at all religions/moral pathways through the same lens-one doesn't hold authority as being best, though many of the people i talk to on the subject seem to think theirs the best. neither here nor there, i digress.

Satanism has some interesting concepts, but the wording is rather juvenile. I can't go unsheathing my greatsword, beheading everyone who comes into my castle and looks at the help askance. They have laws that look down on that sort of thing.

I could see it as helpful for the nerdy, brooding, goth types who might have been bullied a lot in life. People like that don't tend to have a lot of self-esteem

but then again, this sort of thing is all delusion. rule yourself, don't follow the rules and tenants of someone you've never even met. learn from them, but govern yourself, for yourself.

imho, at least.

Yeah, you're right.

Worshiping the Devil to me just seems like a shock factor thing. As if the purpose of it were, principally, to scare people. It seems confrontational by nature. One could live by such a code as described, and not have to bring the Prince of Darkness into it.

Most religions point to salvation, or a way out of personal darkness. People gravitate toward religion to find hope and comfort. To worship the Devil says, "I'm the enemy of those people and what they stand for". And even if the Satan worshiper says, "No, it's not like that" they have to know that all the people worshiping the Good Guy are going to think that, and for good reason.

Edit: Nah its Venus actually. And of course.. God is the anthropomorphism of the Sun.. as y'all should know by now..

Traditionally, Lucifer (English pronunciation: /ˈluːsɪfər, ljuːsɪfər/) is a name that in English generally refers to the devil or Satan before being cast from Heaven, although this is not the original meaning of the term. In Latin, from which the English word is derived, Lucifer (as a noun) means "light-bearer" (from the words lucem ferre). It was the name given to the dawn appearance of the planet Venus, which heralds daylight. For this meaning, English generally uses the names "Morning Star" or "Day Star", and rarely "Lucifer".

The Rev
I'm not a satanist, let me make that clear. But if i recall correctly, the satan in satanism has nothing to do with the traditional euro-christian, goateed dude in a red suit.

a bit of text that summarizes it far more succinctly than i could have

In general, the primary tenets of Satanism consist of personal responsibility, focus on the pleasures of the here and now, and achievement in society.

CoS members do not worship Satan as a deity similar to the Christian God, but rather see "him" as a dark pagan god in the pre-Christian sense. The pagan Satan represents earthly sensuality and virile power.

LaVey wrote The Satanic Bible in 1969, and it contains several rules and guidelines by which to live one's life. Called "The Nine Satanic Statements," they include such declarations as "Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!" and "Satan represents all the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!" These assertions underscore the CoS focus on hedonistic sensual gratification. The Satanic belief is that there is only the here and now, and pleasure should be found as much as possible while we're here on earth, rather than in an unforeseeable hereafter.
