Do You Want Kids?

My love and I have been discussing the nature of parenthood. He seems to think that in hetero relationships, it's always the chick who wants to start a family. The guys simply decide to go along with it but if it weren't for the pressure from the ladies, the guys would never have the desire to experience fatherhood. I probably would have agreed with him a few years ago, but the thing is I have noticed the opposite in recent times. I know lots of guys who have known since they were young that they wanted to have kids, and I also know lots of girls who aren't so sure or at least aren't super pushy about the idea.

Is having a kid something you wish to experience? I don't mean now, I mean ever.

Also I am very gay.

i had a bit of a realization the other day that if i don't have kids there's a good chance i'll end up dying alone in some shitty retirement home. which would be pretty shitty. but then i realized that its like 50 years away and i probably wont even live that long.

but ya i think i want kids someday, but i'm not even close to ready right now.

I never thought I'd want kids, since I thought I'm not exactly daddy material.

But I've been married almost 4 years now and have a 12 year old step son and he's like my best friend. We play video games together, shoot the shit, walk the dogs and he's just a really cool little dude.

10 years ago I never thought I'd be making lunches and I swore I was done with algebra forever but heh, what do you know?

I think I'm lucky to have come into this relationship when I did, I skipped the diapers stage, but still got in early enough to make an impact on the kid, seeing pieces of yourself in your child is really something that words just can't describe.

So would I do it all over again? Hard to tell, never wanted to in the first place, but now here I am, not only tolerating it, but most likely enjoying it would be the right way to describe it.

Do it or don't AL, but whichever you do make sure you do it with 2 feet in and at full speed.

good luck with the choices you make

When I met my wife I made it clear that my plan was to grow until I had about 25k stashed and then I wanted to go to Europe for a while and walk around. No kids. Didn't want to bring a kid into this shitty world.

Once my daughter was born this world ceased to be the shitty place I had tried to convince myself that it was. It galvanized me.

The first time you hold your child in your arms, your entire perception of what it means to be "you" goes out the window.

Our daughter is the second greatest thing that ever happened to me, and she's the GREATEST thing that ever happened to us.

I have pics and vid to prove it.

Haven't done anything to NOT have them over the last 10 years with my Wife,
But haven't done anything to make sure we do either.

Perhaps we have a different mission in the Life.

It's fun being everyone's 'Uncle and Aunt' for sure......

A child would be a blessing to have, with a person that I Love and Cherish as much as I do.... but perhaps it's not in the cards?

There is a Buddhist saying, "Happiness is suffering". Usually, it means that even happiness can make you suffer, if you become attached to it. But I think it applies to parenthood as well. Having kids is an amazing experience, but they can hurt you like no other. You can forget peace of mind, as you will worry about them for the rest of your life. They will take a good 20-30 years to appreciate anything you've done for them (if you're lucky), and you will be a convenient place to focus blame until they realize you're just as human as they are.

That being said, you're never going to love anyone like you love your child. You're never going to feel like sacrificing your own life for someone else ever made sense until you have kids. They will mean everything to you.

Now, I leave you with this thought from our friends from Dethklok:
