I think this is one of the hardest parts of accepting Christianity. They threw out what I think are legitimate texts in an effort to destroy Gnosticism, and let spurious shit like Revelations in which imo has no place in the Bible as it is obviously non canonical and written by a seemingly crazy person.

I agree with most of that Terry, the end is a little strong based on what I've read, but like I said earlier... apocalyptic stuff wasn't original by any means. There are TONS of them in the Nag Hammadi

That there are several versions to choose from, and that indeed they were written by different men .

At different times even.

Weren't you Confirmed ?

We learned all that stuff in Episcopal Youth Fellowship.

"When a brother committed a fault and Abba Moses was invited to a meeting to discuss an appropriate penance, Moses refused to attend. When he was again called to the meeting, Moses took a leaking jug filled with water and carried it on his shoulder. Another version of the story has him carrying a basket filled with sand. When he arrived at the meeting place, the others asked why he was carrying the jug. He replied, "My sins run out behind me and I do not see them, but today I am coming to judge the errors of another." On hearing this, the assembled brothers forgave the erring monk."

This to me is what Christianity is about.

Roach, are you saying, you mean that there are different translations of texts compiled and called a authentic Bible, by different people?

This to me is what Christianity is about.

This guy Terry?

Abba Moses, aka Moses the Black

Coptic Orthodox, is Non-Chalcedon, which I encourage you to read more about if you aren't familiar.

I am really interested in this Branch of Christianity, and didn't have the interference w/ Rome as after a time, they just broke away.

I'm sure you know much of this, but for those who don't, I'd really like to point out how LARGE Christianity is and isn't just the North American weirdness we're commonly exposed to.

The Oriental Orthodox communion comprises six groups: Coptic Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox, Eritrean Orthodox, Syriac Orthodox, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (India) and Armenian Apostolic churches

Basically they reject the dogmatic Christology at the Chalcedon council, as well as some others....

Really different and interesting stuff.

For that matter the Eastern Orthodox Church, as well, has some really cool philosophies/theologies.

The story you posted sounds a bit like the 'cast the first stone story' of the Gospel, which isn't found in some of the earlier manuscripts.

I agree with that, dare I say that is elementary Biblical bio history.

There is more than one Bible, so to speak.

Be it in Canon or translation...

Even with in Branches of Christianity that are the 'same' their Bibles have subtle differences.
