I still can't wrap my head around this. I just don't see how anyone could confuse a certified Yoga teacher with a Yogi, despite the similarities.

That's because you know what both are beforehand.

If you had no clue about yoga, which version seems to have more information on it and/or is more readily accessible?

It's like how americans who are only exposed to the green beer and shamrocks of of st patty's day (the day a catholic zealot drove the native religion from the island) think they know something about irish culture...

I guess this is because I believe there are very few new original ideas. Most new ideas are taking an old idea, one step further, thus creating a new idea. To me, this means that everything has a history.

So when I look at Yoga or the Irish, I KNOW there is history there that I could see if I wanted to. I don't know...maybe it's just me.

the real problem is that every dollar spent on lululemon or any other ridiculously expensive yoga gear is food stolen from the mouths of the hungry, it is clothing and shelter stolen from the cold and the homeless.

It's just disposal income being spent.

If I understand what she is saying, what she means is that the 'disposable' income could be given away to help people. And might I add, actually bring some enlightenment to the practitioner, no matter how westernize or healthclub their yoga practice is.

No it isn't. I'm reasonably sure most people use their own money for those things.

Or do you believe that everyone should give away every cent that isn't absolutely essential?

Culture is why HIV is a huge problem in Africa, and why rape is like gameshow in India. Fuck culture.

No.

The answer is to do your goddamn homework before you institutionalize an industry claiming to be something while in reality you are not. Again and fucking again, this form of Yoga is fine, just realize it goes against basically the entire notion of what actual Yoga is.

Sigh, why is this such a hard concept for white guys to understand, to not have an us vs. them mentality?

i think Capt hit the nail fairly well with the whole thin line of exploitation vs. appreciation or half-assed participation or w/e,

Komp, would it be cooler if western yoga was sold specifically as that? "Western yoga", or just like "Yoga Exercise"?

The most important question is who cares

does it really affect a devout practitioner if a soccer mom wants to squeeze in some yoga in between Starbucks and banging the gardener? no.

does it affect people in first world situations that have little else to complain about? apparently.

or something that agrees with the stroking going on in here.

Most more ethical ones do claim to disclaimer themselves as not tied to a global religion. It's the 'Hot Yoga' and other variants that people are really questioning its value.

All i'm doing is pointing out the problem. We all get that you don't care, yet you feel the need to keep telling us that.

There are many people who care, as its a mockery of a billion peoples' faith. Just because they don't tell deadhead nor in english doesn't mean it isn't discussed around the globe.
