I wasn't going to post this because I thought Funky_Unkle might, but because o Miami's recent thread on Christians in FFA, I decided this might be a good read for some yahookans. I put a link in that thread, but here is its own thread for open discussion.

I like it, and I like its point.

Maybe someday people will realize this and I can go anywhere in the world and tell them I'm Christian without having a fear of being blown to pieces.

I would like for you to politely accept that my belief system is as valid as urs from the start.

I don't thinkit's wrong to witness to people who want to hear it.

But why is this the only religion that takes such heavy coerion? Like I said in the other thread, I have NEVER had to ask someone to be interested in my religion. I'm usually trying to filter nosy people out of alot of it. And they always want to know more.

Think about why this isn't the case for many Christians...

You won't be recongized as a trueChristian and you won't be accepted as a complete individual if you label yourself "Christian". Kind of like how you can't call yourself cool. A self-proclaimed Christian is still a Christ posuer.

I am a follower of Christ's teachings, hence Christian... so whatever. Maybe, just maybe, in the future I'll be the one to change international opinions about christians, who knows.

Its not like I'm gonna lie and say I'm not a follower, I don't know what you want from me.

I'm not that cool anyways, I only like... half live that way... I'm quite the sinner.

having a religion based around an individual is a wrong and potentially dangerous view.

this is one of the reasons why the buddha insisted not to worship him, or creating altars or statues of him. because its not about him. its about you.

i found it cool that at a buddhist temple i went to, they had simple statues of the buddha, jesus, mohammed, and others. jesus was the only one with opened eyes, for some reason.

all of those people were "enlightened." they knew what was going on, and they did what they could to teach others about the ultimate truth. however, when youre dealing with the human race (alot of fucking idiots), alot of people fuck things up.

jesus was not the one and only true savior, thats ridiculous. he was enlightened, like many other people before and after him.

Unless someone is specifically asking you what your faith is, why would you need to tell them? If you just blurt it out for no reason, someone might be kind of taken off guard and give you that "you're a wierdo" look.

Don't be defensive if that happens, it's probably not intentional. Just keep your faith to yourself unless asked. If not, you're always going to - not necessarily offend - but rub some people the wrong way.

Like, don't go to a Jewish household and - just out of nowhere - be like "Hey, I'm Christian."

im willing to bet that most people have never been to another "place of worship" besides their own. go to a jewish temple. go to a mosque. go to a buddhist temple. go to a hindu temple. i guarantee youll be welcomed. see for yourself how similar all the worlds religions are, even the western and eastern...theyre far more similar than most think.
