bhudism?

What do you think of Buddhism??

What do you think of different schools? does a certain school like Zen or Tibetan appeal to you more than others? can you say why?

certian aspects you like, dont like?

If no school of Buddhism that you know of interests you, why?

#1 What are your thoughts on Buddhism?

Im not trying to convert anyone, although i dont think there is neccesarily anything wrong with that. im just saying im not going to try to convince you of anything, im just interested in hearing your observations and thoughts on the topic of Buddhism. any at all.

Also your opinon of Taoism is welcome here.

Zen appeals most to me. While I don't rigorously follow any sutras or dharmas or anything like that, I do think there is much wisdom to be found in buddhism. I do meditate quite a bit and read buddhist texts when I'm in the mood.

This is the only religion that I am somewhat interested in, I don't know too much about it, but I like the fact that you don't have to worship anyone or anything.

I don't know much about buddhism but I do like to read things from various religions and compare them, contemplate their similarities etc.

Besides its not really important, only your understanding of reality is important *points* LOL

There is like literally a bagillion schools.

I also like Zen, Soto Zen in particular, but i really enjoy all the Zen schools.

i think the only complete translation of the Shobogenzo is in four volumes by Gudo Wafu Nishijima, http://www.dogensangha.org/articles.htm#Understanding

I took a world religions course last year in highschool. Buddhism and Taoism were definitely on the top of my list of most favourable religions. Buddhism is the most believable religion in my opinion. And like others said, meditation is just simply amazing.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I read Shunryu Suzuki's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind and became very interested in the Soto school. I have to say that the Kwan Um Zen monks have the most interesting things to say though (but probably the hardest to interpret as well). I participated in a group a couple times of the Kwan Um Zen, but I have to say I didn't like all the bowing and prostrations (108 is also quite a few, left me very tired and with my heart racing trying to meditate). Soto just seems to make the most sense. Much more of an axiomatic philosophy.

I think that zen is the easiest for any western mind to accept. What's not to get? Sit, think (or don't think), look inwardly for "answers". But the four noble truths and the eightfold are also important aspects to comtemplate. The idea of living with little or no posestions in also appealing. "The things you own end up owning you." Tyler.
