I don't want to be an ass or anything, but which philosopher believes in predicting the future? Philosophy is an academic discipline afterall... Some parapsychologist might, but I don't see John Searle or Daniel Dennett go arround telling people that prophecies are true...

Let me begin by saying that I don't think I fully understand the point you're trying to make here, but I would like to be able to. What do you mean that there is nothing biological about the mushroom trip? Do you believe that it is not caused by the interaction of psilocybin in your brain? Look at chemical structures of psilocybin and serotonin and you'll see how chemically similar they are. There is little doubt, to me at least, that the effects caused by the mushrooms (aka the trip) come from the interaction of psilocybin with serotonin receptors. How is this not biological? Please note that I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just don't see your point of view on this one.

Next, the psilocybin is a product of a chemical pathway in mushrooms, just like any other organic molecule produced by lifeforms. I have a link, but it's pretty advanced stuff (requires knowing chemical names, etc), but suffice it to say it is a biochemical pathway leading to the synthesis of N-methyltryptamine (the type of molecule psilocybin is).

Here is the link.

Here is another, more complex one. This will have any fellow nerds amused for at least an hour: here

I'm not trying to be antagonistic and throwing around esoteric chemical terms, but I don't understand where all the stuff you said comes from.

I must say I really don't like the way you describe mushrooms in this case.
To Phishdude- I actually liked the concise comparison to a relationship with biotechnology. [/QUOTE]

And yeah, to actually comment on the thread, I think any information we need to understand what the Mayans thought about 2012 was combusted and lost for good care of the holy Bishop Landa.

I'm studying for my General Biology class right now and I'm starting at carbon compounds. I should end up at the genetic code. I'm skimming 12 chapters. I'll be right back. I should have an answer by then.

Those who say nothing will happen in 2012 are ignorant.

Ignorance is a quality we all possess, but one should not speak on a subject one is ignorant on, because ignorance can spread.

Yes, 2012 REPRESENTS the new era we are headed into. The date itself is not important, because its already happening. 1987-2012 are considered the 25 years of transition from the Old World into the New World. (Pisces to Aquarius)

So, 1987 was when the "changes" that so much prophecies from so many sources predict basically really began.

2004-2012 is an 8 year period that is stressed to be EXTREMELY changing. This is when the dark forces of this planet will be cast off. This is when people will regain their freedom, and the world will be connected as a global society.

I'm not speaking lies , or speaking out of ignorance, but there are those who would accuse me of doing so. Thats fine, because my breath is backed by a source.

The best thing to do for these times, is practice inner discovery. Find a teacher who really knows meditation, or yoga. Or be a brave soul and attempt these paths on your own.

Eat better, think better, dream better. Develop real knowledge, and become a God. thats my advice the age of bondage is over.!

Sylvia Brown is the most highly recognized and gifted psychic in the world, who even gives some of her time in helping with FBI investigations and other police matters.

Anyway she predicts that the world, until 2100, will exist with no nucleur holocaust and no apocolypse. The only thing is, is that she cant see anywhere beyond the year 2100 so she believes it may be the end of the world. She also says in 2010 we will be visited by aliens who wont want to fight but to bring peace and teach us how to use anti-gravity devices as they did with the egyptians during the pyramid building days.

Visit http://www.sylvia.com and visit "predictions" on the left coloumn to see other things but she definitely says we will go longer than 2012. The mayans had really advanced time and calender knowledge so you can see why they are so highly respected in the theory terms, but when it comes down to it who are you going to believe a proven psychic or some ancient people who obviously werent?

the mayans didn't calculate that 12/12/2012 would be armageddon. they used the best calender ever, and they've never been wrong with their predictions. they used more than one thing to predict the future. science, philosophy and psychadelics etc. they were much smarter than this psychic bitch.

How's about this?

I don't believe in the spirit of mia, gaia or whatever.

I don't believe that the mayans had the best calander ever.

I don't believe in pstchics or people that can speak with the dead.

You want to know why?

Because I'm not a retard that believes that there is anymore to this world than nature, science and the illusion called society.

so you don't enjoy believing in facts? if this is true, it means that you don't have any real opinion on all this stuff. you're not that kind of a retard hey, just a retard. how is science any less of an illusion than society?
science is all metaphor

HAHAHAH you dumb little fuck.

I wish you had the mentality to remember that statement for when you die

Nothing more than science, nature and illusion eh?

Let science explain how there is a beginning. Let your little human mind figure that one out with its science because it never will

And pitfall how do you know the mayans have never been wrong. Once again you state things as facts when you dont know them to be true. What a misleading fool you are.

Slyvia Brown has predicted things that will happen very very soon. One was including the Tsunami that hit asia on Dec.26th. Mayans predicted the end of the world and hey when they're wrong you can shut the fuck up once and for all....maybe

just so you know, any human brain is alot more complex than science. i told you that the mayans didn't predict armageddon, so why didn't you listen to me? you never listen to me, and by doing this you usually look like a total idiot. it is fact that the mayans have never been wrong. i didn't bring that out of my bag of magic bullshit or whatever, i brang it out of my knowledge. many people in pro fields know the timeline of mayan predictions, and i believe them when they all say that the mayans had the best calender ever.
even if the mayans are wrong, it doesn't mean that 2012 won't contain something massive. i know that we're heading into an amazing new world, i just don't know if it's gonna be a world like terence mckenna and the mayans described. it's safer to have 90% faith in this prediction than no faith. think about it.

You gotta a better method?
