Question life after death

hi guys,

i just had a weird thought

i was sitting there for about 10 minutes trying to figure this one out

like when you die do u think that you change straight into some 1 else's baby cuaz (i know this sounds so incredibly fucking stupid) when you think about it life's pretty short and it would be so cool if u could remember what happened in a previous life... i dunno it gets u thinking

If we are ever reincarnated as another human being I imagine we'd spend some time first in some sort of world spirit. Fueling life as a whole before returning to individualism.

I think that we will understand 'time' in a different way and therefore give rise to an answer unable to manifest in this world.

The subject of reincarnation fascinates me.

There have been a number of strong cases for reincarnation (the Bridey Murphy story comes to mind), and even Carl Sagan (a skeptic if there ever was one) said that it deserved research. I have speculated on the matter, but haven't come up with anything really concrete, tho.

If I ever have the time, I really want to do one of those hypnotic regressions, where they take you back into a past life. If it's possible, I would want to get information that I could independently verify (like a DOB, a name, a place where I once lived, etc. - something that can be checked against public records that I've never seen before).

i read all about the Bridey Murphy story (the book, and all different commentary from bunches of different researchers, doctors, hypnotists, indian chiefs) and it doesnt seem to be a strong case for reincarnation.

the Bridey Murphy case shows that a person in a hypnotic trance can be very creative and imaginative when encouraged to tell a story or relate non-actual scenes and events

its interesting, fascinating even, but ive never heard or read about any "past life regressions" that yielded any independently verifiable information like a name with a driver's licence number or anything like that.

i did read about kids that seemed to kno stuff they couldnt possibly have learned, and stuff like the names and personal details of people they had never met, but none of those reports are ever very well doccumented, so theres always plenty room for doubt.

still pretty trippy tho

This is funny... My little brother thinks he's the Jim Morrison incarnate. He says that Jim Morrison REALLY died in October of 1986, the month he was born. He bases all this off the fact that one of his friends (while tripping) said he looked like Jim. Cracks me the fuck up. My brother's quite the little joker, and he's so good that he sometimes leaves me unable to tell whether he's serious or just messing around. But whether he was joking or not, I just started laughing at him.

On to my opinion of reincarnation.. I think it's possible. Anything's possible. But I don't think it's plausible. With such a confusion of recycled souls, somebody would have to be in charge of orchestrating the whole thing. And if God really is there, I think he'd be kind enough to give us a break after a lifetime of living in this world. Or maybe he'd let us live as many lives as it took for us to learn that he is there. The old saying "You only live once" comes to mind, and I guess that's pretty much where I stand. But who the fuck am I to say? I've never died as far as I know...

Well...to address the thread title. Life after death, yes! But...if there is no death of consciousness in the first place is it really a death? Do you think that when THIS consciousness leaves THIS body, will time be the same? Would you put restrictions on an interdeminsional consciousness to use the same linear pattern that we would have restricted ourselves with in the first place, when coming here?

As far as reincarnation...I think the fact I'm talking to you guys proves that, infact, it's true. If all energy or consciousness stemmed from one thing, then we are all extensions of the original therefore experiencing differents lives, times n' realites! Is this reincarnation?

Anyway...I do know what you guys mean when you're talking about reincarnation though. Personally I believe it's an inevitability of infinite.

My only experience with having a "vision" of a past life was after 30 miniutes of meditation. I started to "remember" (stick with me here) being put on a wooden stake and burned and sliced at the abdomen. I was in the center of a forest with an African tribe chanting and hating me. I was going agianst everything they believed to be true. They couldn't accept my "truth"!

LOL...anyway food for thought!

It seems to me that if you want the answers to our lives, you need not look any farther than our drama and entertainment.

When an actor extinguishes his role in the play, does he vanish?

No, the Role does, but the Actor persists to get drunk with the rest of the cast behind the state as the crowd gives a roaring applause.

So what I mean to say is that yes, there is Life after Life and it will be akin to finishing your role in the play, shaking your head wildly and say "OH MAN, I ALMOST FORGOT I WAS JUST ACTING!"

I think life after death is possible because as Isaac Newton said,
"Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form".

i don't believe in reincarnation, i believe in energy simultaneously filling all potential configurations. this is analogous to how our bodies are merely configurations of genes: the energy is the same, but the configuration and therefor the manifestation/incarnation of the energy is different. each configuration is unique, and while some may be more or less energetically related the ultimate relation to the energy itself is absolute.

its an interesting question that I *think* has an interesting answer...

a couple of parameters:

1) we exist in a universe
2) the universe contains everything within it in a "closed system"...dark matter, our bodies, billions of galaxies, etc.

If you exist in the universe, all that makes up you...from your physical body to your "spiritual" soul (assuming you have one) all remains in a set system.

Therefore, if life continues, what makes "you" up is recycled and reformed countless times. The carbon that makes up your body will rot and "reincarnate" as fuel for grass, eaten by a rabbit, which is then eaten, perhaps, by a young man who went out hunting.

Reincarnation is "mystical" because we still grapple with what "we" are. CLEARLY, your physical body is "reincarnated" since your body is material.

But what about your thoughts? They are reincarnated in their own way too...einstein's thoughts are reincarnated every time a student thinks about what he had proposed. I am immortal in the fact that my "thoughts" have been expressed and, while my name might vanish, my contribution will always be intrinsic upon the ladder of human expression and growth (and while I might not be as obviously influential as Einsten, I am just as vital).

But our SOUL is what reincarnation really grapples with. What exactly ARE we? Are we something more than chemicals firing randomly giving an odd illusion of self-awareness?
To me, self-awareness is just as tangible as material bodies because it exists. I, regardless of reason, am aware. And since this awareness exists in a closed system, it seems only logical to me that this awareness will be reincarnated in other form(s).
reincarnation is just a way of expressing the interconnectedness and singularity of all things. "You" are already everything...what you think of as "you" will be incarnated infinite ways. Why? Because "you" already are.
Reincarnation (as we commonly think of it) requires a linear timeline. But if you allow yourself to see time as simply a way of expression, you can grapple with the fact that "you" are "INCARNATED" already in infinite ways..."you" (your soul) is the grass on your lawn, me, you, and the asteroid in a galaxy trillions of miles away.

imo.

according to the tibetan book of the dead you get to choose your parents by being shown images of couples in the act of making love and choosing which you will become a child for.
