what sucks about the term "new age" is that it is a bunch of different subjects smashed in as one. Whenever i go into barnes & nobles to get a book on ufos/aliens or books that attempt to explain technology in history, i have to go to the new age section. I do not consider myself new age because that is more about chakras and auras and wicca and other wierd stuff like that, of which I am not into.

"New Age" is so often applied to ditzy flower-child wannabe's that I am reluctant to identify with the term. However, out of all the choices I've seen so far, it probably most closely describes my approach to spirituality.

The ironic bit is that alot of the supposid 'new age' concepts are really 'old age' concepts... well according to what ive read about it.

"New age" is a marketing concept, nothing more....

Like Sanchez says, it's centuries old ideas and beliefs, packaged for todays suckers.

Seems like we have a lot of suckers on this site.

Very true though, it is a lot of old age concepts, many with "new," fresh makeovers. Basically bunches of old concepts refurbished and compressed into one main "new" headline.

Kind of like Rock>Hard Rock>Emo>Alternative >Punk>Progressive>et c., all forms of rock genre.

Although I strongly disregard using the term describing me "new age", I would consider myself one. I alway's thought UFO's, mental/spiritual abilities, and other pie-in-the-sky concepts were interesting. Pretty much just thinking outside of the box of, well, everything is a good mind exercise.

Funny that there is more stuff on this earth that is more unexplainable and fucked up than the knowledge we collectivley "agree" on.

No.

You say you've found Jesus
And he's the only one
You say you've found Buddha
Sittin' in the sun
You say you've found Mohammed
Facin' to the East
You say you've found Krishna
Dancin' in the street

Well, there's something missing in this God Almighty stew
Something happenin' and you don't know what to do
Well, it's your mother (that's right)
You gotta serve yourself
Ain't nobody gonna do it for you
You gotta serve yourself
Ain't nobody gonna do it for you

Well, you may believe in devils and you may believe in lords
But you know you're gonna have to serve yourself
You say we came from monkeys
Or something weird like that
You say the Garden of Eden
Is really where it's at
You say we came in spaceships
Running outta gas
You say we came from nowhere
But this too will pass

Well, wherever we all came from, we sure as hell are here
And who the hell you cry to when the bogeyman is near
And it's your mother, that's right, it's your mother

You may believe in Mickey Mouse or even Donald Duck
But who the hell you turn to when you really need a - ooo-wooo
That's right, it's your mother
You can't do it by yourself, you go blind doing that
It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature
You gotta serve yourself

Why? If I saw you in real life I would kick your ass if you called me "New Age". I dont believe in demons, i dont believe in reincarnation, i dont believe in aliens, i dont believe in crystals with magical power. I have come to some obvious conclusions through research and hard work and dedication that you are unable to for whatever reason. Ive seen and done things you would never imagine. Do you think i care enough about some punk on a stoner message board to explain myself? I come here for laughs and laughs only...semi-intelligable conversation is just a plus. Im obviously not going to find any in this thread. see ya.

Just a little segment from wikipedia...

Quote:
New Age describes a broad movement of late twentieth century and contemporary Western culture characterised by an individual eclectic approach to spiritual exploration. It has some attributes of a new, emerging religion but is currently a loose network of spiritual seekers, teachers, healers and other participants. The name "New Age" also refers to the market segment in which goods and services are sold to people in the movement.

Rather than follow the lead of an organised religion, "New Agers" typically construct their own spiritual journey based on material taken as needed from the mystical traditions of all the worlds religions as well as shamanism, neopaganism and occultism. Participants are likely to dip into many diverse teachings and practises, some mainstream and some fringe, and formulate their own beliefs and practices based on their experiences in each. No clear membership or rigid boundaries actually exist. The movement is most visible where its ideas are traded--for example in specialist bookshops, music stores, and fairs.

Most New Age activity may be characterized as a form of alternative spirituality. Even apparent exceptions (such as alternative health practices) often turn out to have some spiritual dimension (for example, the integration of mind, body, and spirit). "Alternative" here means, with respect to the dominant Western Judeo-Christian culture. It is no accident that most New Age ideas and practices seem to contain implicit critiques of mainstream Christianity in particular. An emphasis on meditation suggests that ordinary prayer is insufficient; belief in reincarnation (which not all New Age followers accept) challenges familiar Christian doctrines of the afterlife.

92% match as Christian...

Me, a devout atheist, which by the way is a valid belief but not found anywhere on the scale.

And what the fuck is a Unitarian Universalist anyway?
