energy would be the technical answer, but i think the question is more "what drives humankind to behave the way we do".

in that case it would be desire- wants, needs, etc. it dictates what we bring into our life and what we leave out. it dictates where we go and what we feel like. desire/want is everything.

The murder desires to kill
The student desires to learn

everyone desires something

I used to spend six of my eight slices of pizza wondering what drove the suburban hum-drummery around me.

what do you mean what drives us? the fact that we cant die on command and that we know we have an average of 80 years in this hell hole drives me to fuck the world and do whatever the fuck I want cuz this shit is never gunna change as long as the rich ar rich and the poor are poor like always since the beginning of time so fuck everyone that thinks they r drivin cuz u arent.ur drivin by the fact that u need to pay ur taxes to the rich people on time.fuckers.
