In the hour of your dying
Point your breath and think away In one brief moment All eternity comes clear Give yourself unto the light Gladly Have no fear It gave you life The only thing it has to give And your time will come When your work is done When your work is done -Robert Hunter |

In my opinion allah, god, rah, jah etc. are all the same entity understood in different ways by different cultures. The true god understands that we all understand him differently. I think most of the b.s. in the bible about god punishing and getting revenge is bullshit. I'm a deist in the sense that I think god intervenes rarely if ever. And I also believe that god is love, and therefore does not punish. The only way people can go to "hell" is if they choose it consiously or subconsiously. This whole punishment/revenge aspect is more applicable to the entity we call the devil or satan. It's like saying a father would completely disown his own child because of something theyve done or someone theyve become. A father might discipline, but a TRUE father that truly loves his child will never send him or her into permanent exile.
And as far as buddhism and stuff, buddhism follows no particular god, just a lifestyle. Some buddhists worship buddha, but I dont think they really see him as a "god" persay. And keep in mind many cultures like Egyptians and Myans believed some of their leaders were gods or human incarnations of a god. The word god is understood in many different ways. Some believe its synonomous with nature, some believe it to be a spiritual entity, some believe its multiple figures...And about the multiple figures thing...Christians bash let's say Hindus for believing in multiple entities, but the christians believe in the father, the son and the holy spirit. Believing in multiple gods and believing in a triune godhead are just slightly different perceptions of the same issue. Let's say a star or some kind of light phenomenon his happening in the sky. One person in California sees blue, green and white light coming from a single object. Someone in Minnesota sees red, orange and white light coming from several smaller objects. Neither one is wrong from where they are standing. They are giving the best description possible of what they saw. God cannot punish us for doing our best. If so, then why believe in this god? A vengeful, spiteful, perfectionist of a being? The whole backbone of christianity is that god/jesus IS love. Love and forgiveness. Jesus said "Above all else, love eachother". These are the words of the lord, not the words of biased writers of the bible. If anything in the bible is true, it is the words of Jesus. If love is the ultimate message, then why would it be contradicted with death, plagues, hell etc.? If I'm going to believe in this god, he must be a more enlightened being than myself. Revenge and murder and punishment are the creations of man's ego that he has the right to judge. We just project them as what god wants, just like we project our human image on him in drawings and descriptions (white beard, hair, humanoid structure).

I see it a little different...
God's like someone who creates this great project for work, and then someone rips it off and claims it's theirs. And all these people are praising someone else when you know you created it. How would you feel? |

I don't think Jesus was all about ego, personally
![]() "I am the way, the truth, and the light" (see there... 'we' is sayin' who's speaking) "... whosoever believith in me shall not perish but have everlasting life." Whoever believes in the light.... the truth.... the way... will travel that path of light. Jesus was a messenger... at least in my book.... like so many others. Wish I could speak/ read ancient Hebrew and that I had access to original sacred scrolls... then I could decide what was what. But because there are so many different religions, so many different texts (even the King James version of the Bible is full of lots of different books from many different periods, interpreted... you got it... many different ways)... I guess that my best bet is to use what God gave me. Shhhhhh.... The wind carries ancient voices.... ... for those who have ears, let them hear.

Nice line from a Great Gospel that wasn't herd for centuries by most, but the essence still floating and permeating our lives.
The Gospel of Thomas for those who don't know about this Nag hammadi Scroll and the Essenes, is what I'm speaking of.

Formal organized religions, were the tools of kings and emperors who they used to legitimize their rule and armies as sanctioned and appointed by gods. They were conducted by priests, sometimes castrated or otherwise surgically altered priests, who were their privileged slaves/servants. They were able to pass this off on some highly superstitious people in ancient times....especially the traumatized women and children who were left after they invaded, raped, pillaged, and robbed the various lands, expanding their empires, and often killing off all the men. All who they conquered were considered their subjects/slaves and property and had to pay them tributes/taxes in various forms. the rulers were considered gods on earth or gods appointed-thus better than everyone else and legitimate in killing any at will. Religion and formal scriptures were old school propaganda of sorts and a psychological way of manipulating/ruling kingdoms and empires. The ones who created it never believed it. In reality, most of these kings and rulers practiced the dark arts.
Spirituality, however...is a different thing completely. Last edited by Scion; 07-19-2009 at 03:07 AM. |
