Fire on the mountain! by the grateful dead is my all time favorite.
it's just such a fun song most people don't get it. what would you say is the message behind this song?

It depends what kind of mood I'm in. I have playlists. My Doobie Ashtray playlist (obviously that's all my rap), my Jack On playlist (Jack Johnson, Marley, Sublime and others), my Float On playlist (Modest Mouse, A Perfect Circle, Weezer, Kings of Leon, Cowboy Mouth, Tool), and my Requiem playlist (Ghostland Observatory, Aphex Twin, Clint Mansell) are my favorite playlists to put on while smoking.

The Annotated Fire on the Mountain

I think the key to the song is in the second verse:
Almost aflame still you don't feel the heat
Takes all you got just to stay on the beat
You say it's a living, we all gotta eat
but you're here alone there's no one to compete
If mercy's in business I wish it for you
More than just ashes when your dreams come true

I'll listen to pretty much anything. Lately it's been a lot of Olivia Tremor Control. Elephant 6 in general is always great. of Montreal, though 2nd generation E6, is probably my favorite band ever. Animal Collective, Gang Gang Dance, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Black Dice, etc. are always good. I like the more experimental/avant garde stuff.
