Ok as a hair stylist I have to weigh in on this.

Each hair follicle undergoes a cycle of activity. The hair grows to a maximum length, then hair growth ceases and the hair is shed and replaced. At any one time we only have around 85% of our hair on our head at a time, the rest being in the resting stages. The hair growth cycle has three distinctive phases:

Anagen: the period of active growth

Catagen: the period of breakdown and change

Telogen: the resting stage before resumption of growth

At all times our hair follicles are going through these cycles. I promise you smoking pot has nothing to do with what your follicles are doing. Now that you are counting every hair I'm sure it is alarming. You can shed up to 120 hairs normally in the catagen stage. Please rest assured that it has nothing to do with smoking pot.

What kind of shampoo and conditioner are you using? That could have something to do with it.

I noticed the same too lately ... I have never lost much hair but during the last few months, since i've been smoking pretty much on a daily basis, my hair has been falling off like crazy.
Now I'm trying not to smoke for at least 10 days just to see if less hair will fall off by then, but i'm pretty sure weed is the cause.
It makes me sad because I really love smoking and I do want to be able to do it more often than once every two weeks

I reccommend hair vitamins. They make your hair grow long and healthy. I smoke week every day, all day and I have hair to the middle of my back - thanks to the hair vitamins.

No need for anything fancy from GNC. Just check the vitamin section in the drug store.

Hair loss can also be a result of a mal-function with the thyroid gland!

Take a straw size of hair from the top of the head........pull slightly the clump. If more than 5 hairs come out....well, the thyroid might need a blood test!

Only my 2 cents/sense~

Hi I'm experiencing the same problem, I'm just 23 years old but then losing my hair I really don't know if this is cause of hereditary cycle or cause of too much cigarette smoking..

I do smoke weed but very seldom..

Ok so for everyone that is under the belief that smoking cannabis is a direct cause of losing their hair I propose this experiment:

1. Clean all you brushes/combs/ect and for the duration for about a month I say its time to collect all the hair that is being removed from your head. Continue to smoke and after about a month measure the mass collected.

2. Clean you brush again and stop smoking. For the next month collect the removed hair and store it in a second holding vessel (plastic baggie) and after a second month get a mass reading.

3. Clean your brush again and start again at the collecting. For a 3rd month, collect the removed hair and get a mass reading.

If more than one person can get results that prove that they are losing more during the 'cannabis' interval of the experiment then maybe I'll start coming around on this. Until then I'm still thinking that hair loss is a genetic issue.

Note: The biggest variable in this experiment is going to be the seasonal weather. Currently where I live (U.P. of Mich) we're going through transitional weather. This causes the 'winter coat' to come in (and extra shedding). My experiment would provide the best results if the 3 months were in the same season, not falling into transitions.

Everytime I woke up I can see strands of my hair 6-20 strands I think.. For now I plan to minimize cig smoking but then continuable on weeds occasionally..

You may simply have another deficiency that causes you to loose hair.
I loose my hair like a fucking dog but I honestly don't believe its from smoking pot.
I don't eat properly, all I mainly eat is cereal, ramen noodles, mcdonalds, and junk food. I'm lacking all types of nutrients my body needs I bet if I ate correctly I would not be loosing as much hair as I am.
Plus I straighten and hair spray the shit out of my hair, that could be a good reason too.
