I fertilize once a week, i always use caution with fertilizing concentration (you can always add more, but you cant take it out), you can switch to 12/12 when you think the plants are tall enough, basically the plant will grow vegetatively till you switch to 12/12, then they will flower, its up to you based on how tall you want them, and how long you want to wait. But once the flowering cycle starts you cant stop it.

I grew one huge plant out in the woods when a teenager (about six feet tall and bushy). Too bad it turned out to be a male. I didn't know shit about growing (still don't/learning) and just used pre-fertilized soil and Miracle Grow.

^ and it worked just fine didn't it

I like a two to three foot tall vegetable with lots of healthy broadleaf to start to produce flowers.

My one friend is a hydro/fert master, but usually only frequents grasscity.
SOG is his next goal.

when/what to neut depends on the plants/soil (test the ph naturally) and don't try to fix what isn't broken. A lot of fertilizer death (of cannabis plants ) is caused by this very type of over enthusiasm.
