Vaporizer HELP!!

OK, I'm not sure about teaching an old dog new tricks...but here goes:

I've been tokin for 40 yrs & gave up ciggies 2+ yrs ago, so I thought maybe I'd try a vaporizer now. I've been bongin since they were 1st introduced [the bamboo ones...with an inverted thimble with a hole-punch for the bowl]. Then I got a Toker II in 1974...& finally a new bong about a year ago.
All I've been hearing is how great a vaporizer is, but I must be doing something wrong. This vaporizer has a 'stem' with a screen that the headshop dude said to heat to 380 degrees. The 'bowl' sits on top of the heated-stem, but the weed I'm tokin is really potent, so I just need 2-3 bonghits & I'm wastoid.
This thing is like smoking a bowl & using a car's cigarette-lighter to burn the weed. I'm getting great hits, but it's SMOKE. I even have to tip the thing upside-down to get what little weed I need to the heated-stem. Am I supposed to wait or something? Am I hitting the hose too quickly & just burning the weed instead of vaporizing it?
I'm really befuddled by this new-fangled contraption!! I've been hearing how great a vaporizer is, but all it's been doing is burning the weed & I toke from the hose. That 'bulbous' part doesn't hold the weed. It goes right between the frosted-glass & the bulbous-glass. So far, all I've been doing is tokin smoke, as the heated stem burns the weed.
What am I doing wrong? Your input will be much appreciated...& maybe someone can explain the proper way to do this. Here are pics of the vaporizer....

How expensive was that vaporizer? Cheap ones often burn weed because they aren't very accurate on temperature.

What is the resulting weed look like, is it brown like tobacco? Black/grey like bowl ash? A Little bit of visible vapor isn't too bad as long as its not flat-out scorching the weed like smoking it would.

It looks low quality. All box vapes are. For the money and someone new to vaping looking for a high quality vaping experience with very little effort I strongly recommends you spend the $300 for a Silver Surfer. I also did so for health reason too and love this thing. Vape-a-licious - which is what one would expect.

wait a while until you hit it
it's not supposed to burn it's supposed to vaporise
when i got my first vaporiser it took 10 mins before the little red light would turn off/or on I don't remember which and told you it's ready, and then you get a good 2-3 hits and you blow out this harmless vapor

google the brand and stuff and see if you can find reviews about it, maybe someone was in the same shoes you are.

and good call on the vaporiser, your saving yourself money and health in the lung run if done right.

I disagree, I've had a vapor bros that worked very well.

Even if there's no smoke coming out, it doesn't mean that it's not working.

sometimes you can't see any vapor at all and it IS working.

vaporizers CAN get hot enough to burn the weed, that's just YOU job to let that not happen.

it's always better to go on a lower temp than you think and just take more hits, then very gradually move the temp up.

It's a Vaporite...only cost $110...& yeah, it's brown like tobacco when it's "burnt" or "done"...but if I put the brown particles in a bowl, it still burns...just not sure if there's any THC left....& my weed is very green. The thing is, the weed I'm tokin is really potent, so I don't want to pack that entire bowl to where it's up against the heating element. I'm not even sure IF it needs to be pressed against the heating element.
Maybe I'm not giving it enough time. That black-dial is the temperature-setting & when it gets to the dialed-in temp, the little red light goes off. Do you guys think I'm hitting it too quickly after placing the 'bowl' on the heated-stem? Do I need to wait until the weed turns black/grey?
I really am grateful for the replies & the info...& I'd love to try vaping weed properly. Thanks again.

LOL now I know why you live on the east side of the US.

I've owned more vaporizers than all the blunts you've ever smoked.

I've owned an Herbalaire for about four years now. It's easy to use, caves herb, cost me $250 and NEVER burns the weed.

Just got The Extreme V-Tower Q 4.0 today used it for the first time with the whip attached, and was blown away. Heats quick has remote is the best I had. Don't know much about the boxes, just dont let it get too hot.

You can just tell right off the bat that Vape sucks as it angles the bowl downward, a no no.

Thanks for all your replies, my friends....I've been fuckin around with the temp-setting & letting it heat-up 1st before attaching the bowl of weed.
I'm really starting to get the hang of this thing & I am sold on vaping!! I get blastoid off this thing & it doesn't kill my lungs like smoking did/does.
It's weird...I was expecting some kinda different 'high' from these, as all I heard was that it was not the same kinda buzz as smoking. I find the buzz even better & no more aching lungs from bong-hits...even though I still enjoy bongin.
Just that since I quit the cigs, my lungs are really susceptible to coughing when smoking weed nowadays. The vape has helped with no more coughing, but inhaling the vapors doesn't kill them at all...& I get wasted without even realizing it until I go to stand-up.
Thanks again for the help!!

I find I don't get as tired when I do from smoking, is that what you mean?

There's less of the foggy feeling.
