Seth Rogen says using a bong "filters out the addictive shit"

If you recall in Pineapple Express, one of the best stoner movies of all time, Seth Rogen is accused of being addicted to MJ and he replies "I used a bong, it filteres out the addictive shit. Like for real!".

Is that real science though?

A: Is there something in marijuana that becomes addictive when smoked straight up?

B: Does a bong filter that shit out?

water is not some magical filter for chemicals. it will reduce the heat and MAYBE, MAYBE, filter out some of the heavy carcinogens and what not, but probably not enough to make a difference.

about 10 years ago or so High Times put the myth to the test and it showed that yes it does cool down the smoke,but it takes away some of the thc. Hadnt used my bongs since then he he

Bongs would have to be the worst way to smoke. I used to only smoke with a bong but I stopped using them after I started getting sore back and chest muscles. I think they put a lot of stress on you lungs, especially if you pull everything in one hit. It's usually a vape or a spliff now.

Marijuana is not physically addictive, but one can still develop a dependency on it. I think it comes down to why you're smoking, and how often. If you smoke it to cope with anxiety, for example, you could get to a point where you felt like you needed it, I suppose.

I'm not a big fan of the whole addiction concept, because it varies from person to person. I've been at this one sobriety board lately, and getting to know alot of people, like myself, who have drinking problems, and the one thing I can say that they all have in common is that they are all different. No one person's problem is really comparable to another's. You just have to look at what you are doing and decide for yourself what it means to your life.

I can say this about herb, tho: when I am not drinking, I smoke a hell of a lot less.

I've read on sites like MAPS that bongs do not necessarily filter out tars and filter out THC.

The study is very old however and they claim that a joint performs just as well as a vaporizer but that's not true.

MAPS - Volume 6 Number 3 Summer 1996 -

I've also seen other studies that say that bongs do filter out tars and carcinogens.

If you're smoking herb you are going to destroy some of the THC from combustion and you're also going to get carcinogens that are produced when carbon/plant materials are burnt and smoked.

Bongs cool the smoke which has to count for something and after a heavy session I'm glad the tarry residue is in the water and not in my lungs.

If you're concerned about your lungs or want to get only THC get a vaporizer.

if you're referring to a bong getting dirty, you should look at a pipe. The water does not filter it anymore than if you used the bong dry. Look at the shit that comes out of the stem next time you clean your bong.

It cools the smoke down which makes for smoother hits. It probably filters out some of the bad shit you don't want to inhale.. a vape with a bong attachment is what you want. You'll filter out as much shit as possible wit that set up.
