The media really proliferates a mixed signal about weed.

First, weed is illegal. But you would hardly know it because of all of the references to it in TV and music and movies and all the talk shows cracking wise about getting high. It's like a big joke in the media and yet people are getting arrested for it in scores every day. But of course you never see people getting busted for smoking on the sitcoms.

And is it really newsworthy?

At least a few times a week there is always a "news" story about weed on the local news and also the national news. But it's never really anything new. It's just some story about a pot dispensary getting raided or a new study that shows MJ use is up or down or whatever. But I always sense this underlying effort simply to talk about weed just for the sake of it being so popular.

But most of all is the music.

You can't curse on the radio but you can talk about smoking pounds of the finest greens. Rap music would have you believe that it is your civic duty to smoke weed.

All in all I just don't like the mixed signals. Mostly because I think it misleads young people into thinking that they are impervious to consequences when in fact the reality of the situations is you can meet with a very profound, life affecting social stigma that just isn't evident in the media.

Not saying I don't wish it were all good.
