Waking Life
Waking Life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I watched it for the first time about a week ago and it was much better than I had anticipated. A little far out and experimental, not your average film, let's put it that way. But very well done and the dialogue is just fantastic as well as the score and the whole idea of it is very thought provoking.

I found this movie echoed a lot of sentiments and ideas I already have but that made it all the more enjoyable.

Edit-I need to take a couple hits of LSD and watch it again. The whole movie is one big trip.

I have a choice between Forbidden Kingdom( Jackie Chan and Jet Li),the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian or Nim's Island. Which one should i go see? I will be in NYC mind you on some pretty potent shrooms with my good friend so which would be the best choice? Im thinking Forbidden Kingdom cause it is the shortest in length and i hate being stuck in a movie theater too long when im stoned let alone on shrooms?!?!.(a.d.d?)

Hmm I don't know how comfortable I'd be tripping in a movie theater but I would have to go with Prince Caspian, I'd think all the talking animals/special effects would make for a good trip

Fearless Hyena vol. 2 <--- old jackie chan; if you're into kung-fu movies, this one is nuts. chopstick food fight with his master in the middle is worth a rent in and of itself.

Fargo. no explanation needed.

Southland Tales--> craziness. soo many star appearances. kind of odd casting, but it adds to the oddness.

Ghostworld--> i'm pretty sure this was the first feature directed by the dude that did donny darko. definitely a must see.

Hot Fuzz-- awesome Michael Bay parody

Just watched Layer Cake, pretty good Brit gangster flick. Daniel Craig is the main character.

I second Herbsies Ghost World recommendation. Mint film. Even though Richard Kelley has no connection to it.

a movie called Moon came out about a month ago at the sundance film festival and I saw it at a art house theatre and I have to say, definitely one of the best movies of the year for me. Its directed by David Bowie's son Duncan Jones and Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey. do yourself a favor and go see this, heavily medicated.

hmm...lets see....good movies that i saw recently :

State of play (Russel Crow). Not bad, considering the shitty movies that are out lately. Watchable. The classic recipe of the "corrupted politician". Crow plays quite well.

7/10

Road Trip 2 - Beer pong :
Dont even bother. It sucks. Its sucks bad. Nothing like the orginal road trip. A very bad sequel.

The boat that rocked : Very good. Groovy. 7.5-8/10

Adventureland : Not bad. Like a 2009 version of classic filmmaking like "16 candles", etc. Takes place in an adventure park in the 80's.
7/10.

De ja Vou : (Denzel washington). Unless you re a geek/tech freak/republican "patriot", dont bother. 4/10

Grey Gardens (based on true events) : Liked it. Drew Barrymore gives a terrific performance. Oscar nominee like. 8/10

Informers : (Mickey rourke, kim bassinger, chris Issak, billy bob thorton and few no-name others). 4/10
If theres nothing else on TV, watch it. Watchable, but nothing more.
About the cocaine/sex filled 80's. Great soundtrack though.

I really enjoyed Chris Isaak's acting. He has a talent in acting (not only in singing). He really gets "in" the characters he plays. Hope we see him again in another film.

Bruno : We laughed, but it wasnt close to Ali G or Borat. Nevertheless it makes u laugh. 5-6/10.

Night at the museum 2 : Boring. Fell asleep halfway and didnt bother to watch the rest the next day. 4/10.

LAbor pains : Linsday lohan Unable to watch it past 10 minutes. Switched to another movie.

The hangover : I expected alot more. Watchable, but nothing special.
6/10

Hes just not that into you :Chick flick. Watchable.

X-men Wolverine : Liked it. Didnt expect to like it, but it was a good movie. Action packed and with great effects. 8/10. And i m not a person who watches Marvel-type movies (spiderman, etc)

Bronson : Very good english movie (true story) about Britains most famous inmate. 8.5/10

Land of the lost (Will Ferell). Great performances by Anna Fariel, Danny McBride (he is hillarious). Didnt expect to like this movie but it was very trippy! 8/10. Some great effects and really funny at certain parts (especially when they drink the hallucinogenic stuff).

Thank you for taking the time...So Ill Blue the ones that I'm interested in, Green the ones that i have seen and recommend and red on the not so savory...

I've got this one up for next week, looks interesting enough

Road Trip 2 - Beer pong :

I agree this one was a stinker...These companies need to stop releasing sub-par direct to dvd sequels that have nothing to do with the originals and actually pay some actors and writers to make a quality product..

The boat that rocked : Very good. Groovy.

I will have to check this one out, never heard of it until now..

Adventureland : Not bad. Like a 2009 version of classic filmmaking like "16 candles", etc. Takes place in an adventure park in the 80's.

I cannot recommend this one enough...Not for everyone but a great picture in the vein of Juno, Garden State, etc...Totally not what I was expecting but it was pleasantly surprising...

De ja Vou : (Denzel washington). Unless you re a geek/tech freak/republican "patriot", dont bother. 4/10

I agree

Grey Gardens (based on true events) : Liked it. Drew Barrymore gives a terrific performance. Oscar nominee like.

I've seen previews...Hearing that has peaked my interest...

Informers : (Mickey rourke, kim bassinger, chris Issak, billy bob thorton and few no-name others). 4/10

I really enjoyed Chris Isaak's acting. He has a talent in acting (not only in singing). He really gets "in" the characters he plays. Hope we see him again in another film.

Not as powerful as Ellis' three previous films, I though this one was pretty fun...Not as earth shattering as crash but worth a watch

Bruno : We laughed, but it wasnt close to Ali G or Borat. Nevertheless it makes u laugh.

Will see it when it comes out on dvd, or perhaps at a later date...

Night at the museum 2 :
Boring. Fell asleep halfway and didnt bother to watch the rest the next day.

I've heard differing things, will probably check out to throw on as background noise...

LAbor pains : Linsday lohan Unable to watch it past 10 minutes. Switched to another movie.

Agree 100%

The hangover : I expected alot more. Watchable, but nothing special.

I went in with no expectations, having not heard about until being invited to a sneak peak..Came out loving the film...Probably the best comedy I saw in theaters this summer...

Hes just not that into you :
Chick flick. Watchable.

Like you said, Chick Flick but well executed...

X-men Wolverine : Liked it. Didnt expect to like it, but it was a good movie. Action packed and with great effects.

I'll see this one when it comes out in a couple weeks...

Bronson : Very good english movie (true story) about Britains most famous inmate.

Doesn't sound interesting at all...May watch if nothing else is available...

Land of the lost (Will Ferell). Great performances by Anna Fariel, Danny McBride (he is hillarious). Didnt expect to like this movie but it was very trippy! 8/10. Some great effects and really funny at certain parts (especially when they drink the hallucinogenic stuff).

I used to watch the show as a kid..I've held off on this one but will probably watch it in the near future...
I will post some recommendations of my own within the next couple of days...

God we did a "family movie night" the other day and my mom grabbed Labor Pains. "Because there was nothing good in the RedBox"...

WTF?!?! Worst movie I've ever seen.

Grieves, definatly watch BRONSON when u get a chance.

its worth watching

shows the life of a man who went nuts at one point, after years in isolation (jail). Britains most famous inmate.

A true story and quite funny at certain points. Trippy movie, that will keep you on your seat, till the end.

1. I'm more a fan of samurai films such as "Sword of Doom", "When the last sword is drawn", "Seven Samurai"...Jackie Chan seems almost like a joke to me...

2. Fargo has been mentioned to death in this thread

3. Donnie Darko remains Richard Kellys epic...Southland Tales seems disjointed and takes multiple viewings to fully understand and at the end is it really worth watching more than once?

4. Ghostworld is great although it was directed by Terry Zwigoff, not the aforementioned Richard Kelly...It has also been mentioned a couple times previously

5.Hot Fuzz, drags, is no sean of the dead, but is still a pretty good film and reminds me of the film, The Lottery for some reason...

Ignoring most obvious choices, one movie i saw recently that completely surprised me was "Sex Drive". Maybe its just because i had assumed it would be completely terrible, and it turned out pretty funny. I have only ever watched the unrated version, and while on a light dose of shrooms, but it was hilarious.

The unrated version is pretty damn silly though, they constantly have naked chicks/dudes walking in the background, and a couple up close and in your face black cock shots. I'm pretty sure they also slipped in like multiple takes on some jokes(IE= when cyclops is making fun of the main character, I'm pretty sure in the regular version he only says 1-2 jokes, but in the unrated he lets out like 5-10 insults in a row.)

They even have a warning at the start of the unrated version telling you not to watch it before the regular. Me and my friends ignored this and loved the movie anyways.
