The Not-so Less-than Official Recommend a Movie Thread
So it seems like I have exhausted my desire to search for new films to see... So being as that I am a lazy bastard, I'm going to let someone else do the searching.. Let me know about a movie that blew your socks off, changed your life, made you question life, made you laugh until crying, etc.. I don't want any of that How High is TEH UBEREST BOMB DANK MOVIE EVAR crap, give me recommendations with some substance...

its basically one long fight scene with no plot. the plot can be summed up like this "man gets elephants stolen from him. man kills everyone"

During watching Once were Warriors I received damage to both forearms from the two girls next to me (fingernails).
After watching Stealing Beauty I had sex under the stars. True Lies made me laugh as much as any movie. |

Originally called Tom-Yum-Goong, and released as The Protector in the US... so it might be easier for you to find under that name.

So I got the next two days off and have five days to watch the following...
The Departed - I know I know, it is a bit late on the draw but I am just now getting around to watching this one Delicatessen - SSD, I trust your tastes, our store didn't have the other two you suggested so I got the one about the cannibals.. The Protector - War over Elephants in Thialand, How could I not... Brazil - The one repeat, I haven't seen this one in years. I Felt like a little dystopia could do me some good Akira - This kid that comes in the store has been harassing me about this movie all week so I decided to risk it. I don't usually dig japanime, most of it is so generic.. Once again thanks for the suggestions and keep em coming... If you haven't seen it already check out the pic SLC Punk, It's about a punker from salt lake city who battles an identity crisis, it has a kid who is purma fried, acided out sex in the park and some angst filled violence.

Again, I would second on Brazil as Grieves suggested, and third on Akira as both Grieves and Waves suggested.
Some notable older 'classic' favourites of mine... Kundun-Scorcese's tale of the Dahli lama... American Pop-Ralph Bakshi's animated story of how music is passed down through several generations of one family... Detroit Rock City-story about 4 guys trying to get to a Kiss concert in Detroit. Edward Furlongs puke scene is......well, terribly disgusting and reminds me of, well, my younger self at one time. Full Metal Jacket-one of Kubrick's best IMO....'This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of my enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.' The Evil Dead Trilogy-'Shop smart, Shop S-Mart!' All of these should be watched without anyone who likes to talk during the films....IMO. HTAM

re Evil Dead - The basement zombie is my fav. The root rape scene is also noteworthy.
![]() I'd be interested to know what you think of AKIRA, strange to think how it would stack up, seeing it for the first time after already seeing everything else, reverse chronologically. Kundun is also my fav Scorcese. |
