^ dark knight, really? what was it about that movie that made it in your top 10 pics? I'm just curious not being an ass or anything.

Personally I thought the Jokers plan to capture batman was way too fucking over the top. I guess for a batman movie it was well done but.. I don't know. it was pretty lame over all by my standards. Bear in mind im no movie scientist.

dark knight was good because it shows that good and evil are just matters of perspective, joker wasn't even the best villain in the film, he was the comedic relief..

well all art/entertainment is impossible to gauge, as one man's treasure is another man's trash...that being said, since you asked:

Dark Knight, to me, is the pinnacle of good storytelling combined with the superhero genre that has (in my lifetime) been relegated to shtick or tongue-in-cheek crappyness. Having the story layered with metaphysics and situations that make you ask moral and ethical questions of yourself (and done well!) put it over the top for me. If you take the time to invest in the mythos of the "dark knight" alongside the "white knight" of Dent, think about the religious undertones of what humanity's true savior will look like, wrestle with the paradoxes The Joker presents...etc....it makes it, to me, one of the best movies ever made...let alone the importance of its proof to production houses that mass-profit and smart scripts are not at odds with one another.

So...

1) it was a superhero movie
2) I found the writing to be absolutely fantastic...the juxtaposition between Harvey Dent and Bruce Wayne combined with the chaotic energy of The Joker made it extremely thought-provoking. It was the most blatant meditation on the human condition in mass-media form I think I've ever seen. So I have ENORMOUS respect for the filmmakers because they finally found a way to tell complex and compelling stories in a form that everyone could enjoy.
3) Heath Ledger gives probably the single best performance on film since Pacino in Scarface or Nicholson in The Shining. Subjective, but as an actor I can claim a slight bit of righteousness here. He is absolutely brilliant.

so yea. just my opinion. Everyone I know hates The Fountain too, but that is far and away my favorite movie to date...maybe I have weird taste.

The writing was damn good, I'll agree, and the message came across clear as fuck. I just really hated the shitty plot - why be strong in all other fields? why not have a more convincing plot?!
