All low end laptops are low end laptops. You get more for your money with a Dell.
A lot of the cheaper HPs have had known problems with HD failure. A lot of the Dells have had problems with the screens acquiring irreversible multicolored lines across the screen which progressively get worse. Like I said. Gotta do your homework on whatever model you look at and decide which you'd rather buy a replacement for. A new screen in 6 years, or a new HD and all the fun when all your info burned up with it. It's all preference.

being someone whos owned multiple laptops, a powerbook that died on me after a year included, i can say that the biggest variable when it comes to making your stuff last is to keep it nicely and dont fucking drop it.

i know it seems duh but im amazed by the way people handle expensive technology.
