Other than that, it runs lightning fast, looks awesome, and the only gripe i've had was getting a 64bit Itunes, which they fixed anyway. And Audacity works perfectly for me, weirdly.

pay to upgrade to windows 7

take the computer to a professional who will downgrade for you

steal a new laptop and a copy of windows xp

call in a bomb threat to a local business and while they are gone steal all their computers in hopes that one of them doesnt have vista installed

etc etc

Vista is bad, running Win7 on a vista capable machine = win.

Get yourself a USB mouse and disable the touchpad Mikey.

Vista is quite OK, some PC's are bad though. Let alone their owners.

You know that thing called the control panel? Turn off hotkeys and turn off User Access Control, this will stop vista from asking/telling you what to do.

Also what brand laptop is it? If it is one of the major brand ones, get a real mouse and then turn off the touchpad by pressing the Fn key and one of the F keys at the top, it should have a little touchpad logo on it. (This problem is not Vista specific, rather one found with all touchpads)

Now to get the look and feel of XP, you will loose Aero(if you have Vista premium, press the Windows key+Tab to switch between windows while still seeing the contents) Right click on your desk top and click on > Personalize. Now in this window select the top option "Window Color and Appearance Settings" and in the next window > Select "Windows Standard".

Then

Right click on the Start Button > Properties > Start Menu Tab(Top of properties window)> Classic Start Menu.

Vista should now act like windows XP

But if it doesn't see the following:

A lot of companies including HP,Acer,Dell,Compaq, Gateway etc load a lot of "automation" utilities when they install them, these will be things like HOT KEYS and popup "hints" etc. You can disable them by going to Start>Run>type "msconfig" withou the quotes > Select the Startup tab at the top and uncheck anything you don't want loading.

Don't disable all of the things that have "Toshiba" Or "Dell" in the title just because they do, check that they are not part of the hardware drivers.

Yes there is, just right click on the start menu and goto properties and re-enable it.

^ What are you talking about, first of all there is no Start button in Vista or at least it's not called like that anymore, and secondly the command prompt "Run" is incorporated with the live search feature which makes it easier to start programs by typing into the search field.
Of course you can always enable the old fashioned Run command but what for?

Ok right click the "windows" button, then click the "Start" Menu tab (oh shit it's still called "Start") then click classic Start menu, now you have run enabled.

that whole user acces control is such shite. like someone being told to download adobe or java by a website needs the added confusion of being warned by their computer that the installation program will begin running

True it's still called Start, but there's no need for the Run command anymore since the new search field acts as one.

wrong, hit windows key+r will still bring up the run menu, and cmd is still there also.

I've been using windows 7 now since release, and I'm starting to fall in love with it, fast as shit, reliable, haven't had one single issue yet.
